*Birthers* the New Hate Word.
In the past couple of years that I have been on these blogs I have noticed the tendency to use buzz words to demonize a section of the population which some people can feel self righteous and use as a safe target to express their fears and hate. Past buzz words have been conservative, Christian, muslim, religious right, fundies, neocon, moral, and traditional. Did I miss any? From skimming the blogs lately, I gather the new trendy hate word is *Birthers* I don't think name calling actually helps the communication process, nor does it help a person grow in love or compassion which they must do to overcome hate and fear. 13 comments from 8 users

Kind of a double-edged sword. How about liberals, atheists, the left? This is definitely a two way street (with plenty of traffic). Heck, even "moderates" and "middle of the roaders" take their hits. The word liberal has been maligned both locally and nationally for much longer than anything on your list. But, Wayfarer, I completely agree with what you are saying, only I would expand the list. And based on the respect with which you handle all issues and bloggers, it is nice to see one "practice what they preach". EDIT - I wasn't trying to beat a dead horse, you guys just beat me to the punch. posted by

What a gem. I suppose you don't think you're guilty of that at all do you. Funny that you consider birthers a hate word, since the fact is, the whole reason you are called a birther is because you hate the President and for some reason insist (despite evidence to the contrary) that he wasn't born in Hawaii, or whatever strange theory you can come up with. posted by

Well Cub I will be the first to disagree with you about rather I practice what I preach. Pete if you are addressing me, then you are giving an example of my point. I don't hate the president. I have a great respect for him for trying to think out of the box. Rather he succeeds or if I support him on all issues is another matter. Also I have never made a issue of his citizenship. Now moving right along. I would like to share an article about how the word Liberal and education has changed from the time of Frederik Douglass to our post modern times.www.salvomag.com/new/articles/salvo9/9jodziewicz. php posted by

"hate" such a strong word. let's see...moon-bat, commie,un-American....I know there are more. Are you telling me these are not terms of endearment? ;-) This post is supposed to help us communicate better,is it? You may wish to consider how the use of the word hate feeds whatever fire there is Way. IMHO~ there is no fire except the one a person attempts to start themselves. Rest assured ~I save "hate" for very few individuals, the birthers do not rise to that level.

My point is that the core issues boil down to the fear and hate that is in a person. If you read any of the sojourner7 post you will understand that what I in my own miserable way I try to practice is the personal growth from the tendency towards choosing evil/darkness; instead of light/good. In this post I am attempting to point out the use of labels to project our fear and hate unto someone/something else ,rather than admitting our wrongness and asking God to help us grow in virtues. What is comes down to is that "each person is really only responsible for his own 2 square feet of the earth" { St. John Maximovitch of San Francisco} Irregardless of what everyone else is doing. It is still up to each individual to plant flowers or weeds in his garden plot. posted by

I just HATE it when people toss around the "H" word just to try to prove a point. Being against something or someone doesn't mean you hate it or them. I hate seeing a lie like that in a hate filled post about people being haters when there's no evidence of real hate to be seen. What a hateful thing to say about someone unless you hate them for you thinking they hate. Man alive..I surely do hate typing. I hate the heat, I hate lots of things but only know two people I ever felt true hatred for and that's gone away on one of them. Oh yeah..I hate evil people. Not sick and such but true evil people. Hmmm...what else do I hate? posted by
