Amazing Year
What an amazing year! I see Dick Cheney in a wheelchair, with Joseph Biden on his right, move to the limo and off to the inauguration of Barack Obama as our nation's 44th President. Cheney gets wheeled out. There might be a trace of justice in the world, after all. "Oh, by Jingo." The Arizona Cardinals will be in this year's Super Bowl. The downtrodden have risen to the upper echelons of the world. No one a year ago would have given a chance to a black rookie Senator from Illinois, or the Arizona Cardinals, to have risen so far so fast to sit atop the world. There is much to rejoice and celebrate today, because in spite of all gloom and doom of today's economic and political climate miraculous events still occur here in this great nation of ours. Now is the time to to move forward and reach out to our neighbors in friendship. To help those less fortunate and down on their luck or circumstance. I found a profound message on my e-mail this morning. It came from an old workmate of mine. The message came from BornAgainAmerican.org. I invite anyone reading this to check out this link. I think many of you will be surprised and maybe moved to do something great this year. You might make new friends, and find renewed purpose in being alive here and now.

Now is the time to to move forward and reach out to our neighbors in friendship. To help those less fortunate and down on their luck or circumstance. Why is now the time to do this?? Why didn't you start last week?? Why not 4 years ago?? Why not on 9/1/05?? Why not on 4/23/03?? Why not on 9/13/01?? Why not on 1/21/01?? Why now all of a sudden is it a good time to reach out to our neighbors in friendship?? To help those less fortunate and down on their luck?? I have been doing that all of my adult life. I thought everyone was doing it.. Are you telling me there has been millions of people over the last 7 or 8 years who have not been doing those things you espouse?? No wonder the load I have been pulling for the last 8 years seemed so heavy. I certainly thank you for your offer to do something great this year, my friend, especially for those in need. Since I work 60 hours a week to pay 40% of my salary in tax, I haven't had time to fix my backyard fence. I will leave the gate unlocked. Please feel free to come over anytime and repair it, but please try to have it done by this weekend, I am haveing a backyard party on Saturday. I have a bill of materials and the plans in the electrical panel just as you get in the back yard. You can buy the material at Home Depot or Lowes. The material list is pretty complete, so you shouldn't have to make but one trip if you get everything on the list. All my tools are in the jobox at the back fence. Just make sure you don't let the dog out or get sticky fingers with my tools. Give me a call when you get it done and you can buy your new friend Ron a beer and fill me in on just what an experience building my fence was. Tell all your other buddies about me as well. I would like to be friends with them too. I have plenty of projects around the house, just don't have time to do it.........Thanks a bunch Adam, I look forward to that beer ..... XOXO Ron... posted by

Ron, sorry to hear about your fence. Putting up a sturdy fence takes a skill I don't have. However, I have used the local Reliance Fence Company for both my own fence repair and my father's fence repair. On both occasions we were delighted with the results and the reasonable price. Reliance is located at 345 Mount Vernon Avenue here in Bakersfield. The phone number is 661-324-6806. A person of your means deserves true professionals. Maybe this is the year to take the time to do many of those little things that seemed to be just out of reach. Cheers, and we'll catch up on those beers. posted by

Well, off to a great start with the whole "change" thing. That was un ugly comment, indeed. I take it what class you had has now gone out the window. Why bother pretending when your horse won the race. posted by

Witbee, because of Cheney and his ilk there are very, very many more people in wheelchairs than before he took office. I don't count on karma, because like the rest of the universe it operates entirely in a random fashion. Bush and Cheney should take tremendous comfort in that fact. posted by

I noticed Ted Kennedy collapsed. My wife asked what happened, I said "His liver probably gave out." I noticed Sarah Palin was nowhere to be seen. Too busy changing the diaper of her grandchild's uncle. Obama, I understand, appeared at a dinner honoring Colin Powell, another honoring John McCain, had morning coffee with Bush, then ate more chow with Congress...he's going to have to diet for a week. Then Dick Cheney in a wheelchair. Not even a power chair. Oh, how the mighty have fallen. posted by

Amazing Year indeed, AdamPayne. I've been asking everyone I spoke with today to give me a song to describe their feelings about today, your link was just what I was looking for. Thanks.

Witbee, how is that ugly? I think you're just bitter over the Democrats sweeping the election. Too bad for you. Try the link and groove to the song. It's catchy and brought to you by the man who created Archie Bunker. Peace in our lifetime! posted by

It's an olive branch Ron. Are you going to accept it or are you going to throw it to the ground and stomp on it? posted by

Olive branch for what?? It was a simple question. And a fair question. Why is now the time to put away our petty differences? Why is now the time to help those less fortunate?? What if I decide just to take care of myself and my family? Will that be ok with you all? Can we agree on that?? I won't actively work to destroy this country, like the left did for 8 years. Will you take that olive branch, or do you want more from me?? posted by

Then put aside the petty differences, starting now. :) Prove that you are the better person. Somebody has to be the first to set the example. posted by

I have differences, however, they are not petty. They go to the very core of what makes this country free. SO I will not be putting my differences aside. After all, diversity is good... posted by

It would have to be a really terrible person before I could be happy to see someone in a wheelchair or in poor health. Nobody in question here measures down to that, I don't think. posted by

O don't get me wrong, I don't want him to die. However Kennedy should be waterboarded a few times so he can know what drowning feels like. posted by

Ron, let me address your central question, "Why now?" Yesterday is gone. We live today. Today is now. Yesterday is memory, and might just as well be three hundred years ago for all that we can do to get it back. I don't care what you did yesterday. Want better health care today? Do something about it today. Want better understanding between you and your family? Do something about it today. Want your fence fixed? Call Reliance Fence Company today. Nothing stays the same, Ron. You have a lot of choices everyday on what you might want to accomplish, and who you might want to engage. Have a great day!
