HUH???
Today I read a post somewhere, I don't recall where exaclty... But the lady was asking if anyone new of a vet that practiced de-barking becuase her dog barked too much and she was going to have to get rid of it if she couldn't find a way to get it to stop barking.... I hope this lady doesn't have kids!!!! Honestly can someone be that mental that they would think that a dog could be "de-barked"?

I will be the first to admit that loud unruly kids and annoying barking dogs drive me CRAZY!!!! but I would never dream of doing such a thing to them.... posted by

http://en.wikibooks.org/wik... "Debarking" a dog requires a veterinarian to enter the dog's trachea and modify its vocal cords. The procedure requires the use of a general anesthesia and involves punching or notching the dog's vocal chords to soften or significantly reduce his ability to bark. No procedure is without risk and debarking risks scarring and narrowing of the tracheal opening following the surgery, causing the dog difficulty in breathing. After the surgery, the dog sounds hoarse whenever it tries to bark, and it can not generate loud barks. Sometimes the bark will return to some extent due to a build up of scar on the vocal chord but the bark will never be as loud as before. posted by

nikki: I'm with you; spaying and neutering is one thing, but how does having a dog or cat make sense if it is necessary to maime it? Dogs are supposed to bark; cats are supposed to have claws. (Just like babies are supposed to cry.) Depends on attitude, I guess. To me, a pet is a companion; to others, it is property. posted by

The quick easy way to fix this problem, just give the dog who would love it no matter what. She will never have to hear that dog bark again posted by

EVEN WHEN THEY ARE DEBARKED THEY WILL STILL DO IT..ONLY NOW IT SOUNDS LIKE THEY HAVE A VERY SORE THROAT WHICH IS EVEN MORE ANNOYING THAN THE ORIGINAL NOISE.. IF OUR DGS BARK WE TELL THEM TO STOP AND THEY DO...ITS JUST A MATTER OF TAKING THE TIME TO INTERACT WITH YOUR CANINE BUDDYS,

OMG electric shock training to potty train?!?!? I think that would be SO wrong to "debark" a dog. Bah I can't even continue to comment on that one... I hear ya -- I had a pet but didn't have the time to devote to it so I sadly gave it to a home that could give it the attention it needed. :(
