Scary flight to Australia

Don't know about you, but I would have lost it if I was on this flight.

A little turbulence makes my stomach flutter.

But this. Crikey!

I just love the "was it a bomb" style headline; so indicative of the fear mentality people have today. I wonder if it will turn out to be one of the many household items people think are harmless but that can have a catastrophic failure. For example, I've always found the policy to check large lithium based batteries amusing rather than allow them as carry-on, because if they're going to fail, they'll fail in the cargo hold just as readily (if not more given the more extreme environment there) as in the passenger cabin. And in the cargo hold, they'll have a whole lot more items they could set on fire and possible cause to explode (e.g. toiletries that use compressed air) than they would in the passenger section.
