What's coming at Norris Road and Wells Avenue?

Q: There was a restaurant at the corner of Norris Road and Wells Avenue in Oildale.

Maggie’s was the name, I think. Someone has been working on it, but now I see that the windows were busted out and plywood now covers the windows! Who owns this property and when are they going to open it up? What type of food? Is it for lease?

— Brent Andrews

Owners Aquileo Lopez and Andres Perez are making improvements to what will be the Pepper Tree Cafe. They rent the space from James Quach.

Lopez and Perez hope to open it in the next month or so. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all on the menu. Owners plan to feature American-style fare priced between $6 and $10.

I'm sorry but I can't help getting a giggle out of this one.  Folks with Hispanic surnames opening an American fare restaurant in Oildale.

And people say we aren't progressive in this town.  :-)
