How would you describe Bakersfield's “spirituality”? Who is going to save the Highway 99 oleanders? What's up with DirectTV and local hi-def channels? Is it illegal to turn without signaling? Is Bass Pro Shops still coming to town? Where's the dirt from the 178/Fairfax highway exchange going? Those radio road alerts are useless What's happening across the street from 24 hour fitness at Bernard? Northwest corner of Reina and Old Farm? What to do about the cars that go boom June 06 July 06 August 06 September 06 October 06 November 06 December 06 January 07 February 07 March 07 April 07 May 07 June 07 July 07 August 07 September 07 October 07 November 07 December 07 January 08 February 08 March 08 April 08 May 08 June 08 July 08 August 08 |

What's coming at Norris Road and Wells Avenue?
Location:
Norris Road and Wells Avenue,
Bakersfield, CA
Q: There was a restaurant at the corner of Norris Road and Wells Avenue in Oildale. Maggie’s was the name, I think. Someone has been working on it, but now I see that the windows were busted out and plywood now covers the windows! Who owns this property and when are they going to open it up? What type of food? Is it for lease? — Brent Andrews
Owners Aquileo Lopez and Andres Perez are making improvements to what will be the Pepper Tree Cafe. They rent the space from James Quach. Lopez and Perez hope to open it in the next month or so. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are all on the menu. Owners plan to feature American-style fare priced between $6 and $10. 1 comments from 1 users

I'm sorry but I can't help getting a giggle out of this one. Folks with Hispanic surnames opening an American fare restaurant in Oildale. And people say we aren't progressive in this town. :-)
