What can I do about my neighbor's overflowing trash cans? Is a Sam's Club coming to Renfro and Rosedale? What happened to the trees near the Ben Austin Senior Center? Why no flag at Hart Park? How would you describe Bakersfield's “spirituality”? Who is going to save the Highway 99 oleanders? What's up with DirectTV and local hi-def channels? Is it illegal to turn without signaling? Is Bass Pro Shops still coming to town? Where's the dirt from the 178/Fairfax highway exchange going? When will the new racetrack open?
Q: Several months back, The Californian reported that a new racetrack was going to be built along Enos Lane, near I-5. I have not since heard anything about this venture and am wondering what the status is.
— Dan Brito Plans call for a half-mile oval that will become Kern County’s new home to NASCAR. It will be located just west of where Enos Lane (Highway 43) intersects with Interstate 5. Marion Collins, former owner of Mesa Marin, says: “We have a hearing on Nov. 9 before the county planning commission. We think everything is fine. If everything works out fine at the planning commission, we have to wait 12 days, then a permit will be issued to us. And then we can start moving dirt. ... Probably about a year from this weekend we’ll have an event.” 1 comments from 1 users

I hope this track ends up being nice. However, I think an opportunity has slipped by here. An opportunity to build a track that would not only attract smaller NASCAR series (such as the Southwest Series or the Craftsman Truck Series) but maybe at least the Busch Series or Indy Racing League or Champ Car World Series (the rival series of IRL). No disrespect for the smaller series' as they make a for a fun night at the races for area families and drivers, but here could have been a chance to really put Bakersfield, Taft, and the rest of Kern County on the national map when it comes to sports.
