ASK THE CALIFORNIAN
Q.: On the west side of Highway 99, between Panama Lane and McKee Road, a huge concrete block wall was constructed a very short time ago. Now a large portion of that wall is being torn down and trucked away. What is going on there?
— Buffy Bebaker
A.: Part of the wall was in the footprint of a future interchange for Hosking Road and the 99, said Marian Shaw, a civil engineer with the city of Bakersfield.
Home builder Lennar agreed to remove some of it to accommodate the interchange.
Shaw said she hasn’t seen a schedule for the interchange, but believes the project may be “fast-tracked,” which means it could be completed within a couple of years.
