What's up with the poorly designed Mall View Road?
Q: Can you tell me who is responsible for maintaining Mall View Road between Mount Vernon Avenue and Fashion Place? It seems it was poorly designed from the start, going from two lanes to one and then back to two. Now with all the fast food places there and the center lane paint nearly gone it's dangerous. Now with the proposed expansion that’s going to be built, it will only get worse. Do you know if plans are in the works to make it two lanes all the way through to the East Hills Mall? 5 comments from 5 users

If it is privately owned (designed and maintained), wouldn't that make them liable for any damages from accident caused by the poor planning? posted by

Go to Del Taco and then try to turn left headed to Walmart. And good luck. That's got to be the worst cluster(nevermind) I've ever seen. It's a nightmare. You're much better off going down to the next light and going in the back way. I just keep forgetting to do it. posted by

It used to be even worse. When the road first went in it shrank down to one east bound lane as soon as it went east past the car wash entrance. So you had two lanes turning left off of Mt Vernon and then pow a lane was gone. It disappeared right where anyone going left into Starbucks or del Taco would stop if they needed to yield to traffic. At least now there are two lanes all the way to the stop sign by Home Depot. But that whole shopping/fast food complex is a nightmare. Those nicely curving streets were a poor choice. Putting the car wash between the Jack-in-the-Box and the parking lot exit was just dumb. Anyone going into or out of JitB has to pass the car wash exit. Is the parking lot for Starbucks supposed to be one way, kind of like a traffic circle? Because in the am that parking lot is a madhouse. If we must go to Starbucks we usually go to the one at Oswell and Auburn. And Harvey is so right about the line paint. It is almost impossible to see. Even the big lane arrows are almost invisible when you are west bound at the traffic light at Mt Vernon. This parking lot could be used as a text book example of how not to design a fastfood/shopping complex.
