The condition of Madison Grove Park

Q. Is Madison Grove Park a few blocks west of Norris Road and Calloway Drive finished, neglected or in progress?
The play structures, basketball and tennis facilities are great but the grass is atrocious. It looks like they are cultivating the native weeds and mow them once a month or so.
Is there a reason why this was not planted and properly maintained?
Thanks,
Bob Szczurek

A. Maintenance of the park has recently been taken over by the park district, said David McArthur, general manager of the North of the River Recreation and Park District, in a phone conversation May 20.
Landscaping in the new 9-acre park in northwest Bakersfield was being handled by a subcontractor who was in over his head, McArthur said.
A reporter’s visit on the 20th found much of the site with heavily overgrown grass, although portions had been trimmed.
Going forward, things should change, McArthur said.
“We have taken it over and it will be maintained now on a weekly basis,” he said.
