Northwest corner of Reina and Old Farm?

Q: What’s going on at the northwest corner of Reina Road and Old Farm Road?
 — Roger Arellano

A: The new Roman Catholic parish, St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish, will use the 20-acre plot for a 1,500-seat sanctuary, meeting rooms and possibly a school. The land is owned by the Diocese of Fresno.

Father Perry Kavookjian, who is organizing the new parish, said he expects all of the land to be utilized by the new parish, even if they decide to not build a new school.  Kavookjian said the parish will start services on Sept. 7 at the performing arts center of Frontier High School.

He said the original name, All Saints Parish, was changed when Kavookjian realized there was already the All Saints Anglican Church in Bakersfield. He said about 200 people went to a May 19 meeting to vote on the name. Seton is the first-born American to be canonized and was a wife, mother, convert, widower and nun.

“We want the name of a person who is relevant and important to Americans,” he said.
