What's happening across the street from 24 hour fitness at Bernard?

Q: Maybe you can answer one question for me. I’ve been going to the 24 hour fitness at 3400 Bernard St. for years. Across the street from it (south side) is a big eye sore, it’s a big, boarded up building, been set on fire years ago. I was wondering when the city is going to do something about it?

Thank you,
— Beverly Dahl

A: The series of boarded up buildings that sits inside a fenced-in area on Bernard Street is owned by its next door neighbor, Bakersfield Adventist Academy.

City Assistant Planning Director Jim Eggert said the area was rezoned a few months ago to make way for a multi-family or higher density housing development.

But, Eggert said, the school has not contacted the city’s planning department with further plans, and there is no set deadline for them to take action on the eight to 10 acres of land.

What I want to know is, why oh why on earth do you have a news feed from FOX on the home page? Fox? Seriously? FOX!? Did it occur to you to select, oh, perhaps, a credible newsgathering organization?
