What's up with DirectTV and local hi-def channels?

Q: Can anyone tell me why we cannot get high definition TV from any of our local TV affiliates ... ABC, CBS, FOX and NBC on the DIRECTV satellite service?
With football season right around the corner it sure would be nice if local programming figured out a way to get this done. I feel like we need to await the invention of the wheel again. Yikes!
Bob Boyich

A: Bakersfield will likely begin receiving HD local channels from DIRECTV next year, says company spokesman Robert Mercer. The company does not have a specific launch date.

Hello, you have to get the football package and most all games are in HD.

Switch to Dish Network, problem resolved.

DishNet offers locl network affiliates.

I'd like to know why DIRECTV hasn't already started offering local HD channels or the CW Bakersfield (channel 12) or KGOV.  It's RIDICULOUS why these stations only allow Bright House Networks to carry them.  And I'm also wondering why us DIRECTV subscribers can't get our current local weather conditions on The Weather Channel (a national network) like you can on Bright House.

According to the DirecTV website, hi def feed is provided by KNBC, KCBS, KABC and KTTV from Los Angeles, so any network NFL games would be broadcast through them.  The local stations only broadcast what the network provides, so you don't really need them for any network hi-def programming when the LA stations are provided.

But there's another issue.  Why won't Channel 23 upgrade their equipment to broadcast "Jeopardy" and "Wheel of Fortune" in hi-def?  Hi-def versions of both are going on 3 years now, but Channel 23 refuses to upgrade.  I've called them about it and all I've gotten is  a "too bad, we'll do it someday" attitude.  Since Channel 23 won't I'm going to call Bright House and see if they can arrange to provide the hi-def feed of the  LA affiliate that broadcasts 'Jeopardy' and 'Wheel of Fortune'.  We're in the 21st century now, except at Channel 23.

We shouldn't have to rely on LA stations for hi-def broadcast.  Also, local TV executives should quit this "exclusive" c**p with Bright House when it comes to local hi-def channels and other local stations that aren't produced by Bright House.
