What happened to plans for the assisted living complex on Auburn Street?
Location:
Fairfax and Auburn,
Bakersfield, CA
Q: What happened to the assisted living complex that was supposed to be built on Auburn Street between Fairfax (Road) and Morning Drive? I've seen no action there in a long time. -- Sharon Bush
A: The land is slated for a 79-room assisted living complex and 60 single-family homes, said John "Buzz" Kind, a consultant for developer Vaughn Properties. The land, about 18.5 acres, has been graded. Workers are now laying sewer pipes. Once improvements such as curbs and gutters are finished, construction can begin, possibly in late spring, Kind said. The project’s cost is estimated at $4 to $7 million. Plans for a 32-unit apartment complex there have been set aside for a temporary sump. The 51,000-square-foot assisted living facility would be on Auburn Street; the houses would sit behind it. Plans for the complex include a restaurant, hair salon, theater and game room. A nurse practitioner would be on duty at all times. There wouldn’t be an official tie between the housing community and the retirement complex, but such a connection is “anticipated,” Kind said. 0 comments from 0 users
