Q: In the mid-1990's, there was a construction project slated for the southwest area of town, just southeast of Highway 99 and Panama Lane. I believe it was called the Grand Canal. During the publicity of this project, several children were afforded an opportunity to make decorative tiles that would be used for this project. There was a fee for the artistic works of the children. I believe the tiles were painted and decorated at a local museum in Bakersfield. Well, the construction project...

Q: Can you tell me anything about the so-called "quality of life" laws that we have here in Bakersfield?  I would like to know what they are and how we get them enforced. Q: Every time we attend a function at the convention center, many of us theatergoers cross Truxtun to get to our cars.  Has the city considered putting a pedestrian crossing at O Street and Truxtun Avenue? Thank you. -- Alice Merenbach A: City officials have not thought about putting a crosswalk at that intersection, Public Works Director Raul Rojas said on Friday. “With the location of the signal [and crosswalk] at N Street, we probably would not consider putting one...

Q: How come the PBR (Professional Bull Riders, Inc.) events that come to Bakersfield every year, so far, don't get on national television like the ones in Fresno, Reno, and Sacramento and other cities? –– Bryan Jackson, Bakersfield A: The Professional Bull Riders event that comes to Bakersfield is a part of the Enterprise Tour. The event that travels to Fresno, Reno and Sacramento is on the Built Ford Tough Series. That series is on TV — it airs on the Versus network...
