Q.: I noticed the question in Ask TBC (Aug. 27) regarding a gas station development at Highway 178/Comanche Drive. I believe (what) the reader may have been referring to is the larger planned development at 178/Masterson Street/Kern Canyon Road (across from the current Chevron station) — as part of the City in the Hills development. There have been reports of a grocery store, movie theater, restaurants, etc., in that area, but the details/timeline have been a little sketchy. From...

Q.: Over six months ago, an 18-wheeler drove through the Kentucky Fried chicken restaurant in Wasco, destroying the front half of the building. The owner said at that time he would try to find jobs for his employees at other KFC outlets while the building was rebuilt. To date, nothing has happened. Why not and will the restaurant be rebuilt? — Arnold Johansen A.: The Kentucky Fried Chicken will be rebuilt beginning in October as a KFC-A&W franchise, according to contractor...

Hayjman, as in cageman? hoggieman? — Don Brewer A.: Well, this is like the old “potato-potahto,” “tomato-tomahto” conundrum: Different people, even those who are responsible for our city and county roads, pronounce it in a variety of ways. According to Marc Gauthier, of the city of Bakersfield Planning...

Q.: Some of the stop signs along Mall View Road in the East Hills Mall are covered with vegetation, making traffic hazardous.  Who is responsible for correcting this? — Stan Scott A.: Depends on the tenants along the road, said mall general manager Tommie Sparks. They’re responsible for maintaining the landscaping on their properties. It could be argued the tree branches looming over Mall View Road’s sidewalks make it tough for a driver approaching an intersection...

Q.: How and why is this West Ming project going to go through? What with all the foreclosures going on and the fact that the houses are priced out of range of the average pay scale in this town and they will be adding another 14,000 vehicles to the already overcrowded roads, why was this given the green light? — Ted McClaren A.: It’s common for developers to plan ahead so that when the economy picks up, they’re already prepared to act, said Jim Movius,...
