Q.: I am just wondering when the city government will continue their unfinished divider island project on Old River Road.— Arman DomingoA.: Medians are generally built when the second side of the street is developed, said Marian Shaw, a civil engineer for Bakersfield. When the first developer builds on one side, he or she pays a median fee. The developer on the other side of the road then builds the median and gets the fee to defray half the costs.Sometimes it’s more complicated than that,...

Q: My question is: On the east side of Coffee Road, between Entrance Street and Hageman Road, there is a huge pile of dirt all covered over with tarps and boards. There is a mesh fence around it, and cones on the sidewalk. It has been like that for weeks. What is happening there, and why isn’t it finished? Thanks for your answer. — Margie MarshallA: The conspicuous dirt pile at the entrance of a busy shopping center caught the attention of the city, too.“We’ve had our eye on that for a...

We have been told when requesting and receiving service, that this is as good as it will get until the exchange is updated with new equipment. Are there any actual plans to improve this service, or is “this as good as you will get?” — Jim Webdell A.: AT&T...

Q.: What is being built in the canal on the west side of Coffee Road between Brimhall Road and Truxtun Avenue? — Judy Walker A.: The Kern County Water Agency is constructing the Coffee Road box culvert project west of Coffee Road between Brimhall Road and the Kern River, according to an e-mailed statement from the agency. The project purpose is to provide a way for the city of Bakersfield’s future Westside Parkway to cross over the Cross Valley Canal with on and off ramps...

Location: Tehachapi, CA

A: The question going around in Tehachapi, is not does the state provide housing in the facility of the prison, but does the government help families with inmates with housing and relocation in the Tehachapi area? Our crime rate may still be low, but it has sky-rocketed in the last few years, and many of us are wondering if this is related to the fact that the families have moved here, with or without help from the government. Children without fathers in the home are more prone to bad...
