If I Could Sleep Until December 15th, I Would
Tonight, southbound on I-5, passing Lyons, I did not believe what I saw.  I thought it was a gag, like the "bullet hole" you see on the back of a SuV.
It was a real boxer dog with a leash around its neck, attached to and chasing this elevated truck at 70 MPH in the #1 lane.

That is the fastest boxer I have ever heard of.

When I saw the dog - it was a boxer -I flashed my highbeams at the truck; he was pulling over as I passed him.  The dog was running, still on its legs.

I've been a driver for many years and I've seen a lot  Nothing has shaken me more than what I saw last night.

I have to agree with you, that would really freak me out.  The driver/owner was probably devastated.

A dog that can run 70 MPH?  Can even a greyhound run that fast?  And if so..I know they can only do it for a short distance.

Come on now "Merle Haggard lookin' licorice stick dude" ...........

No damn dog can run that fast.

Even a Cheetah can't to 70 but for a few hundred yards (if that)

And even Al Gore would know a Cheetah has spots! ("a tiger can't change his spots" ~~Al Gore)

Next thing you're gonna tell us

Further down I-5 he got stopped by a Chippie and it was Greg Williams who told him about his dog "Sparky" (ala "Vacation" movie)

Then the guy turned out to be "Sparky" (Carl Sparks) and they all got a laugh out of it.

(Of course the boxer was sold to a circus to run around a velodrome @ 70 mph!)

If your gonna do one Merle Hag Dude, make it at least a really good one!

Did you see that after eating the magic brownies?

I'm still waiting for the punch line.  It sounds like something out of National Lampoon's Vacation.  Poor guy.  I hope they took him to the vet!  He obviously got into the owners stash of speed!

Interesting range of comments and I appreciate your response as candid, immediate and revealing of yourselves.  The rest of the "story," the punchline -if you want to call it that- is a subject for fiction.  I don't know what happened to the man  driving the truck or to the boxer with the great heart, but I'll be working on it.

Oy vey...sad situation for sure.

I can imagine being the dog...making long bounds to keep from dragging behind the truck...feet only touching for an instant before the next 10 yeard leap.

Surely this dog was thinking he was supposed to do this.

I am relieved and glad to hear the truck was pulling over as you passed.

My question is... How did witnessing this make you feel?

Sooz
