The Worst Gift You Ever Received?

OK, I saw this on MSN.com, but I thought it might be a good topic. So what were the worst  gifts you ever received? Here is a sample of what I found on MSN.

Not a Christmas present, but some friends of ours received a used, electric turkey carver as a wedding present (dried turkey shavings included).
I was always a little chubby growing up, and when I was about 12, my aunt sent me a pink corduroy jumper of the most unflattering variety, with a picture of a pig on the bodice and embroidery reading "...this little piggy stayed home!"
I received a used paper Christmas bag filled with free perfume samples from magazines one year.
My mother who was a wonderful gift giving person had a lady friend ( neighbor) who she would always have these great Birthday lunches with and they would exchange gifts and try to out do each other on their great gift each year. One year Helen gave my Mother a high heel shoe that had been covered with elbow macaroni and sprayed gold. she had put a gaudy blue plastic rose in it and made her a " flower arrangement" my Mother was horrified. We still laugh about it every time we see Helen or elbow macaroni.

A pair of black socks from my Grandmother. On the bottom there was a stamp that read, 'U.S. Army Rejects"

My half sister (she's 27 years older then me) gave me a carton of Camel Filter cigarettes for Christmas one year. I was 13 years old. Needless to say, we have never been close.

I have thought and thought about this for a while and really can not think of a bad gift that I have received. I either have family members and friends who have good taste... or I am just real easy to please. I do know what the best gift I ever received is - My son (18 years old now) made me a ceramic ashtray in third grade.. yes I am an evil smoker (slaps self on the wrist). He told me he told the teacher he wanted to make his Dad an ashtray, she did not like that idea,,, how about a jewelry holder? It's about three inches around, globby and kinda pink, and I love it and use it daily.... for ashes and cigarette butts, I just don't have any jewelry, except my wedding ring and it never comes off of my finger.

I can't think off hand of any really BAD gifts but some of the most useless gifts have come from co workers at the Christmas "draw a name" events.  It's generally something bought because it's expected and not because that person knows your taste.  One year we had to write down several things we'd like and mine was something NOT on my list and something I had two of at home.  It's still in the box and will someday be a re-gift.

In my working years, 4 different times in 4 different jobs,  the person who drew my name didn't come to the Christmas party so while everyone is busy unwrapping, I'm sitting there thinking "why am I bothering with this?"  This year I'm opting out of the share a gift thing and refusing to participate.  I've suggested to my co workers that instead of exchanging gifts, we adopt a charity and collect toys for children.  If not, I'll take the money determined at work and drop in into the Salvation Army Kettle or buy a toy on my own to donate.   I do not need any more obligatory gifts.

One Christmas I received 32 pairs of socks and a salad shooter.  True story.  I also received other very nice gifts.  Not that I didn't want the 32 pairs of socks and the salad shooter, but when asked what I got for Christmas, that answer made much more interesting conversation.

D..it must have been fun unwrapping all those socks.  :-)

This year I put out the word that I want a jar opener...and not an electric one.  I also want a small tool set with ratchets and sockets.   I must have at least a dozen screwdrivers both flat and phillips..a handful of end wrenches but never the right one, a couple of pairs of pliers, channel locks, a pair of vise grips, two sizes of crescent wrenches, 2-3 hammers, rubber mallet, assorted odds and ends..but no socket sets.

This summer Mark was changing a headlight for me and had to remove a bracket.  I brought out two toolboxes of "stuff" and not the right tool in the bunch...or at least one that would get at the angle needed.  Mine are all moxnix.

Although it wasn't planned that way, the first several gifts I opened were SOCKS!  At one point I asked "Is this all I got!"  The reason for all the socks was Jennifer, my oldest and only daughter was notorious for taking my socks.  Her dad had listened to me complain about it, so he decided to stock me up on socks.  There came a point that it just got out of hand.  I still have some of those socks.  And although she has her own lovely daughters (3) who take her socks, she still comes over from time to time and "borrows" a pair.

At least you have plenty to "loan" her.  :-)

Hum, my dad's parents gave me the following when I was a kid. Over the 4 or 5 years I got the following, a .99 cent pen, pair of socks (adult size for a 7 yr old), comb (I had a military crew cut),  used coloring book. My older brother was their favorite and they went all out for him, numerous gifts etc. So my parents finally told them ether treat us equally or nothing at all. They did improve a little bit.

During my teen years after I got some god aweful present, I told them to donate the money they would spend on my to some charity group, which would be far better.
