Whose cover of "Ruby..." do you prefer: Cake's cover, or the one by me, Dr BLT?

Upon visiting the Cake website recently, I noted that Cake had recorded a cover of the same tune I recently recorded a cover of: Mel Tillis's Ruby (Don't Take Your Love to Town), made a huge hit in the 70s by Kenny Rogers.

I am curious to know whose cover of this classic you, the visitors at Bakersfield.com, prefer:

When you go to Cake's website, linked here, their cover tune will automatically play:

http://www.cakemusic.com/

Now, here is my cover of the same song.

Pretend that Cake and myself are before the judges of American Idol.  Pretend you are the judges.  Now who wins this competition:

Ruby (Don't Take Your Love to Town)

Dr BLT cover of Mel Tillis classic

I'm waiting for your opinion.

My ego is working just fine, thank-you.

nice annonymous comment blt. (3 comments from 2 users) trying to up your hits? Ok, so which one is better. On one hand we have a nationally renouned band played on radion stations across the US. On the other we have you. A legend in your own mind who bombards these blogs with horrible renditions. Posting your music....isn't that like a vanity press?
posted by blognroll on May 31, 2007 at 12:06 PM

Is that what they call the new math, anon?  I believe they called that "fuzzy math" in the presidential debates of 2000.   I see 2 comments, not 3, well, now there's three, but, unlike you, I'm not afraid to reveal my true identity : )

But, as for the vanity comment, why is it not vanity for you to post your words, but it's vanity if I put music to some of my words?  At what point does it become vanity, when I add the first note to the song?

Nice deletion; you know apples and oranges.

Yes Blogroll I remember you brother Logroll, I alway thought that was an unusual name but this is America. That is not new math, where did you go to school if you did? That is Oildale math. OOps I forgot another cannuck genius come to tell us how to live and who can live here.
posted by blognroll on May 31, 2007 at 12:15 PM

My bad.  Your spelling actually trumps your math.

Enlighten us professor. What's wrong no teaching gig?

Now tell us little Harold Hanson, what is the use cannucks are as stupid as their moose.

The Bakersfield.com powers that be have given me the power to delete those insulting comments by giving me access to the delete button.  But so far, you haven't crossed the line, and, besides, insults from anons are just cheap shots and everybody can see the cowardly nature of such comments.  So, by hiding behind the anon screen name, you are saying more about yourself than you are about me.

Avoiding a response. Nice. So exercise your "power." It might feel the same as assigning an "F." You might have forgotten that feeling.

I have to admire you, you have the thick skin of a real estate salesman and the shtick of a used car salesman. unlike you  who is a legal alien, I am not so legal so an alias is appropriate,  just like a blogging cop you might say.

I rarely assign the grade of "F" to a student.  I don't have the heart, just like, so far, I don't have the heart to delete your comments.  At least you care enough to comment.
posted by anonymous on May 31, 2007 at 12:51 PM

Well you actually have to have students in order to assign them a grade.

If you only knew my view on immigrants, legal or otherwise, (contained in the original Dr BLTune, The Immigrant, which, I can't seem to find a link for at the moment), you'd be much nicer to me.

Actually, I am alway impressed by the big whites of the great white North, they seamlessly and impress lively  penetrate the fabric of their Southern neighbors with the mythical honesty of a Royal Mountie
Most of the time they just throw their social hatred  bombs and scurry back north across the Border to their tundra hideouts, but like you there are exceptions.
posted by blognroll on May 31, 2007 at 12:58 PM
And I am one of those exceptions, my immigrant friend.  And by the way, if this country gets any more conservative, you're going to need one of those "tundra hideouts."  That was actually a pretty good line, my friend.  You actually made me laugh a little bit inside.  You do have a little wit on your side.  I will give you that.

Yes, you are the bomber that keeps on bombing, Wecome to America

You are just a vistor. Remember that.

Well, in the sense that we are all just visiting this planet, then, yes.  But I am as much a citizen of the U.S. as I am of Canada.  I've got my papers to cover myself on both sides of the border, and that's why I don't have to hide behind an "anon."

If you are speaking about bombs of brotherhood, peace, and unity, then yes, I am that bomber.  I call them "Weapons of Mass Construction."

I hope that your papers are not written on smooth paper because than they are useless as toilet paper, you are still a cunnuck and that is the way it is.
Beside as a cunnuck you don't need any "papers" you just stroll across like the TB man this week.
No like all alien from the North Star, you just come to whine about other aliens and sow the seeds of dissension just as you did in the old country. In fact most bannocks that settle north do so to protest the "socialist" policies of their native country.

They words are written on birch bark.  That was good enough for my people back in the old days up in Saskatchewan, and it should be good enough today.  I welcome all foreigners in this country, whether they come from north or south of the border.  I welcome them with open arms and with a song in my heart.  As long as they mind their own business, I don't get into their business either.

No you are not. What branch did you serve in?

Like Cheney and Rush, BLT was in the Boy scouts, does that count?

I like their music better~but you have it all over the other singer.I'm embarrassed to say it's the first time I heard you..and by the way I love Mel but ackkk that song is my least favorite..music is so subjective..I admire anyone with musical talent, and the nerve to do it!
