If Bakersfield.com offered awards ceremony for indie blogs here, what categories would you propose?

One more question: Do you think it would be possible for judges to make decisions independently of political/ideological bias?

Hey BLT, what's an "indie blogger"?  (And who are your "judges"?)  :)
posted by blognroll on Sep 26, 2007 at 09:06 AM
Indie as in "independent," as in not on the Bakersfield Californian payroll.   And, Jason, if such a ceremony were hyothetically held, I would nominate you to be one of the judges.  I hope that doesn't put me in the category of Biggest Butt-kissing Blogger of the Year : )

Independent meaning non-paid-staffer?  Community bloggers (the majority of our users)?  And I ask re: judges b/c your question about bias--would judges be a mix of staffers and community members of B.com?  Non-users?  Just wondering...  :)

Yes, perhaps independent isn't the correct term, but it's the only one I could think of.

Good question.   Probably some sort of team consisting of all of those groups you've mentioned would be optimal.  I'm not sure.

I think you should win, hands down, for the most sarcastic and cynical, robb : )

Oh good, BLT.  That seems very fair.  Just deciding to give out awards without any of the preconditions you yourself put on the contest seems totally unbiased and undeniably impartial.

This is pretty typical behavior for this blog.  I don't know why I even post here.

/entry in the cynical/sarcastic category.

I'd like to thank the academy for this award. And also my mother, who didn't abort me, my dad, who taught me how to hit the roundhouse slice and all you politicians out there. I couldn't have done it without you!

This is actually a fun idea (no sarcasm).  ;)  Really, what might be some categories?  Maybe we can do this for real...

Now that's what you call "preparedness meets opportunity" robb :)  You're already working on your acceptance speech!  Now all you need is the opportunity and you'll be set!

Well, how about Best New Blog of 2007?  Perhaps you could kind of model (without copying) some of the awards offered at the Grammys and the Oscars.  You may also include some sort of mock categories, so it would be both a serious contest, but also one that allows us to laugh a little.

That's a very cool idea.  This would be really fun...ROFLMAO...

Thanks, Janet.  Have you got any category suggestions?   There must be a category that only someone like yourself could possibly win :)

Ok, I know I'm gonna be smacked up side my cyber head for (not knowing the proper name for)  this one, but how about "Most Entertaining Icon" (or whatever it's called.. you know.. the picture that shows up under your name..). It's fun to see what some of you come up with. Or even the funny pictures you've displayed within comments.. How would that be classified? :)

Edit:
To answer your second question, regarding if the judges would be able to make a decision without using their ideologies, etc... not likely. Those things make up who we are. They're a big part of how we see the world.. :)

Thanks for your category suggestion (a very good one, I might add), and for answering the other question posed in the blog thread.

Hummm a catagory(s)... hum... "Best Wanna Be Blogger without a clue!" or another catagory would be "Best Foot In Mouth Comment" such as possummomma and me or "Best  Non Political Blogging" or "Favorite Recipe Blogger" so many more...  Oh about "Best Trip Blog" such as the Motopoet  or even better.  "Best Reality Blogging Story Teller"

How about those to start with....
