Song Surge: Check out pro-troop video: I Like a Boy featuring Leah, Mims and Obama Girl
Holding up the troops. How do you do that without glamorizing the war? How do you feel about this video? Personally, though I'm glad it comes out in support of the troops in Iraq, I don't think there's anything sexy about war. I would rather see videos and hear songs that simply come out and show support for the troops in ways that acknowledge the "war is hell" reality. Here's proof that I practice what I preach. I support the troops with a song surge that doesn't make the war or surge seem sexy. I'd like to see less songs that simply hate on Bush without offering support to the troops, and I'd like to see less songs that make the surge seem sexy. I'm not sure they're trying to make the war itself seem sexy, rather they seem to be playing themselves up to be sexy (and successfully, obviously). It kind of reminds me of the old USO days when famous performers would go (and still do) visit the troops to brighten their spirits. I guess this is our generation's version of that..?? I don't know..
After all, sex sells everything. It's pathetic, but true. From what I read, this is for gaining support for veterans, right? On a side note, this was a little more tolerable to me than the original "Obama" song.. and I thought it was cute that there were everyday people in the video, showing their husbands or boyfriends who were in the military. Well, there's my 2 cents, for what they're worth.. (Let the slamming begin.. Just remember who started all this.. LOL! ;) posted by

You're right, bnfl, and I stand corrected. The song and video were not designed to make the war appear sexy, but simply to entertain the troops in the fashion that you've identified from the old USO days. And you're also right that this was done to gain support for the vets. Here's the source: posted by
