BAKERSFIELD'S NEXT BUCK contest update: First contestant a female? She wants to Buck the system?
As Gomer Pyle used to say, "Surprise. Surprise." (On TV land, folks, please, I'm not that old :)! Certainly, when I introduced this contest, I wasn't expecting the first contestant to be female. I didn't picture "a young buck" in the form of a "young woman." But the Bakersfield Sound was full of surprises, and so it should come as no surprise that this attempt to tap into some of the spirit of that age and to channel that spirit through a new generation of KROCKERS (the name I've given to up-and-coming Kern County country rockers with a bit of the attitude and a hit of the sound of Korn) should produce surprises. I hope this doesn't evolve into a battle of the sexes, but the time to exclude women, or bands for that matter, was when I first introduced the competition. It's too late, so get ready for a young woman as a potential young buck. You might not get a woman in the white house this time around, but some kick-ass kountry from Kern County is comin' to town, and the king of kick-ass kountry may just be a queen. _________________________________________________ ___ BTW, it's not too late to join. Contestants will all use the same song to compete with, and that's the one uploaded here, called "If You Wanna be the Next Buck Owens." Stay tuned at:
