My Sunday Mornin' Confession ('bout Saturday Night at Trout's): song inspired by last night's "Joy"

I have a confession to make about the following confession.  It's built on a vast exaggeration.  But, then again, it's Trout's and isn't it true that to tell a good fish story, at least at little exaggeration is required to capture the interest of the listener?  Thanks for the drink, Rockwell, but I didn't get blitz out of my mind as suggested by the song.  My first beer must have been shaken up a little too hard, because when it was opened, most of it fizzled out and spilled all over the place.  I had one more, and then the one you brought me.

Homer brought the roof down with a rowdy, real country performance that had people dancing their butts off.  It was all part of a 2-night tribute to the Bakersfield Sound that featured multiple acts.

I stood on the sidelines and took it all in.  Then I woke up in the morning, not with a hangover, but with a Homer song in my head, and a song of my own that followed his.  So, without further ado, here's the rough, unplugged version of

My Sunday Mornin' Confession ('bout Saturday Night at Trout's).

I'll perform this song "live" this morning at Starbucks on Roseday Highway near Calloway at about 8:30 am.  Here are the lyrics:

My Sunday Mornin' Confession ('bout Saturday Night at Trout's)

words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2008

well, I woke up Sunday mornin'

with a Homer song in my head

and one hell of a hangover

don't remember a thing I said

don't remember what I did either

well, I do

but with some doubt

it's my Sunday mornin' confession

'bout Saturday Night at Trout's

Rockwell bout me a Budweiser

and I drank to the Bakersfield Sound

but by the time that it was over

I couldn't find my way 'cross town

well the place was filled with cowboys

and cowgirls that'd make you shout

and it's my Sunday mornin' confession

'bout Saturday night at Trout's

hell, yeh!

Hee Haw

I can't remember

what I heard there

and I can't tell you what I saw

hell, yeh!

no doubt

it's my Sunday mornin' confession

'bout Saturday night at Trout's

it's my Sunday mornin' confession

'bout Saturday night at Trout's

 My Sunday morning confession:

Woman: You told me you loved me last night.

JBS: I lied.

Die Hard batteries are a blessing not from God but from Sears, as your car starts right up before she can get her gun out of the nightstand...

You could probably make a song about your confession too :)

Call the song Assault and Battery :)

When I was a kid and my Daddy would talk about assault and battery charges

I used to wonder what salt and charging a battery up had to do with each other

(I really did -- I didn't know the english too good......)

Back in the day my confession would have been :I do not get that drunk .(when ones memory is ,shall we say, foggy? Way too much of a self control freak))

P.S> hangover and 8:30 am are never in the same sentence ;-p

Been "ripped" a few time at Trout's!! back in the 60's that was my home away from home!  Lived on El Tejon, just a short jog so didn't have to drive!  Got a ride home with a sheriff now and again!  Back then they would just take you home and pour you out!!  What fun that was!

I know what you mean.  If you'll notice, this song/thread was posted at 7:21 am.  I was in bed by just a little after mid-night, and this song woke me up by popping into my head at about 5 am.

When a song wakes me up, I have little choice but to obey the call of the song.  It's a songwriter thing.  But if I really had the night I claimed to have in the song, I would have likely told the song to shut up and it would have probably been forgotten.  That is not to say I didn't have a good time.

Rockwell, who runs the place really went out of his way to make me feel welcome, and Homer Joy really rocked the night away up on that stage.  And just to check out all of the interesting people was priceless.  If I was as hammered as I claim to be in the song, just think of what I would have missed.

The great thing about songwriting is that you can take liberties.  I can get totally plasted in a song, and not wake up the next day with a hangover, because my experience was contained within the song.  But the beer and the memories opened up my mind to what could have possibly happened, if I hadn't have been such a self control freak like you, sage :)

Sounds like a great time, witterpitters!

I love it, Chico.  Great stuff!  Thanks, all of you, for stopping by to share your thoughts and memories.

PS: I took this picture after the drinks.  If I were as plastered as I claim to have been in the song, I think it would have ended up just a bit more blurry, and/or a bit more crooked.  Like I said previously, what would fish stories be without the exaggeration factor? Of course you kind of ruin the effect if you tell folks you're exaggerating.  Oh well, I guess it's too late to take it back now :)

Witters..were you drinking underage?  You're younger than I am.  :-)

posted by blognroll on Mar 31, 2008 at 01:45 AM

Maybe there should be something called drinking over-age :)

I think I reached that "overage" drinking thing years ago.   LOL.
