There's a Ghost in this Building: Me and my guitar will face this ghost today
Good morning, Bakersfield! I'll be heading out to the site of the Buck Owens recording studios to (God willing) record a handful of tunes paying tribute to the history of this place, in the process of closing its doors. Songs to be recorded include There's a Ghost in This Building, Walls of Sound are Falling, Phat Chance, and Last Man Standing. If time permits, I've also written End of the World, paying tribute to World Records, another historic Kern County musical landmark. The session (representing the final page in the final chapter of the history of these studios), taking place this morning, is closed to the public, and, per management, please do not bring TV cameras. I sincerely apologize to representatives of the press that have tried to inquire about that possibility. If it were up to me I would allow cameras, even though it is well known that I have a marked disdain for publicity, and any form, hint or scintilla of fame, or the prospect of it :). I respect the wishes of the management and it supports my desire to keep a low profile. For those from the press that have been trying to reach me, I am available for questions about the project before and after the session, so please call me if you have an interest in this recording tribute session. But the results will be available in a form of a maxi CD single or an EP, tentatively entitled The Buck Owens Studios Farewell Session. Wish me luck! Stay tuned at: http://www.drblt.net

Well, when the session first started, Nick struck me as being rather aloof, but I think since we hadn't worked together before, and weren't familiar with each other's mode of operation, it just took a little while for us to warm up to one another. Once we did, things began to click, and it was a phenomenal session. There will be an EP release party within about one month and it will probably be held at Russo's at the Marketplace where they extened a previous invitation to me. I came out with an EP's worth of tributes to to the studio, and one for World Records, which went down, but now appears to be going up again. Maybe Pat will sell my song and the EP at the new location. He's been very good about selling my song in the past. I will blog more about the session if I can find the time. Thanks for your curiousity. It was great to book the Farewell Session against all odds, and to add to participate with Nick in adding a final page to the remarkable history of this great old studio. posted by

I can't stand it... what transpired, Buckaroo? It turns out World Records will probably be moving downtown without a hitch. This from a very good source. posted by
