HAPPY BIRTHDAY HOMER JOY! Here's a brand new birthday song for you.
Yes, it's another birthday, thank God, for Homer Joy. He's a terrific songwriter who penned The Streets of Bakersfield for Buck. He's had a heart transplant, but he's always, and will always have a big heart for these streets of Bakersfield and all the people that walk them. I've penned a brand new Birthday song for Homer, and you can hear it at the tiny play station above, on the left-hand of the top of this blog post by simply clicking the play bar. He's still performing, he has a top hit on the independent country charts, and he still performing, most recently at Trout's: http://people.bakersfield.c... Homer Joy, one of the last surviving pioneers that helped to define (and continue to define) the Bakersfield Sound. He is the grand daddy of the nu Bako Sound, a nu fusion of old Bakersfield Sound, nu Kern County country rock (aka krock) and post-punk-post-Korn rock, being impregnated garage bands, night clubs and related venues (like Trout's, Jerry's Pizza and Fish Lips), in bedrooms, and even on the streets of Bakersfield themselves. We don't know who the next Buck Owens will be, but we thank God Homer Joy is still alive and kickin'.
Join me in wishing Homer Joy a very HAPPY BIRTHDAY!
