This Ain't My Country: Lyric today, hear it tomorrow

Welcome to the blog n roll series I call Lyric Today, Hear it Tomorrow, where you can read the lyrics before the songs are recorded.  Yes, it's called Lyric Today, Hear it Tomorrow, but that's not always the way it works out.

The songs I come up with are like cars crowding the freeway in my mind.  Some survive the traffic jam and others sputter out and die on the side of the road.  So some of these songs will never be heard, but they will be read, even if I'm the only one that ever reads them.

Without further ado, I give you:

This Ain't My Country

words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2008

my country's built

on Buck, and Merle and Johnny

my country's built on Conway Twitty too

my country's stands

on heartbreak songs from George Jones

this ain't my country

no, it belongs to you

chorus:

this ain't my country

this ain't my music

this ain't the land

of opportunity

this ain't my country

it is your country

won't someone bring

my country back to me

my country needs to hear

straight from the heart and

my country needs some authenticity

no fancy orchestration or technology

I wish you'd give my country back to me

(chorus)

this is your country

it ain't my country

there ain't a note I can identify

'cause it ain't my country

it ain't my music

if it don't make me

wanna dance or cry

(chorus)

This ain't my country

Everyone smacks me in the mouth

This ain't my country

Women keep kneeing me further south...

It sounds like you've been kicked around enough to be able to make it as the next big Kern County country stars.  As I once put it in a song, all you need are "3 chords and a Heartache."

Unfortunately, I would also need a decent singing voice. When compared to my singing, a bean fart sounds like Pavarotti...

Well, I've always said there's a style of music out there for every single voice.  If you don't find it, create your own style, a sort of deconstructionist post-punk style where you're openly rebelling against all of those sweet, syrupy, in-tune voices out there :)

Apparently John never heard Bob Dylan sing.

That's right, or Bruce Springsteen for that matter.  Don't let a little thing like a bad singing voice stop you from becoming a big star :)
