Who got the most praise in Hillary's speech, McCain or Obama?

I think she said McCain was a dear friend and that his service in the military was honorable, or something to that effect.  Then of course, she pulled a Clinton, and said No way, no how no McCain.

I don't recall any positive adjectives she used to describe Obama.   Am I forgetting something.  I do recall her complimenting Michelle Obama.  Maybe my memory is selective, but, at best, it was a pretty close contest between Obama and McCain.

So you count adjectives, huh?  And yeah, you're forgetting a lot. Graciousness toward an opponent is a virtue. Acknowledging an opponent's military service is a virtue. It requires good character.  You don't think "Elect Barrack Obama as our president" is praise? I'd say it's the highest praise anyone could give to Obama.

"Now, John McCain is my colleague and my friend.

He has served our country with honor and courage.

"But we don’t need four more years . . . of the last eight years.

More economic stagnation …and less affordable health care.

More high gas prices …and less alternative energy.

More jobs getting shipped overseas …and fewer jobs created here.

More skyrocketing debt ...home foreclosures …and mounting bills that are crushing our middle class families.

More war . . . less diplomacy.

More of a government where the privileged come first …and everyone else comes last."

"John McCain says the economy is fundamentally sound. John McCain doesn’t think that 47 million people without health insurance is a crisis. John McCain wants to privatize Social Security. And in 2008, he still thinks it’s okay when women don’t earn equal pay for equal work." If you see this as praise ~lets not be friends okay? lol

I did an rough count  10 times she said Obamas name and praised Obama, and she said McCains name 3 times~one of which is "NO way,No How, No McCain"

Nice try folks, but I'm looking for quotes involving more words of praise for Obama than words of praise for McCain.  I don't see that offered in either of your comments.

Yes, much of her speech involved the hackneyed old trick involving associations between McCain, and the Bush administration.  And much of it involved what she's accomplished as a person.

But surprisingly little was offered in terms of what Obama, specifically has to offer as a reason folks should unify behind him.

Didn't you even listen to the speech BLT? By your comments today, It doesn't seem like it. Oh, wait, you're just trying to divide the Democratic Party again. How many days in a row can you go?

I wonder when McCain is going to release his entire military records unredacted? He hasn't yet? I wonder what he's trying to hide?

We need to elect Barack Obama because we need a President who understands that America can’t compete in a global economy by padding the pockets of energy speculators, while ignoring the workers whose jobs have been shipped overseas. We need a President who understands that we can’t solve the problems of global warming by giving windfall profits to the oil companies while ignoring opportunities to invest in new technologies that will build a green economy.

We need a President who understands that the genius of America has always depended on the strength and vitality of the middle class.

"Barack Obama began his career fighting for workers displaced by the global economy. He built his campaign on a fundamental belief that change in this country must start from the ground up, not the top down. He knows government must be about “We the people” not “We the favored few.”

And when Barack Obama is in the White House, he’ll revitalize our economy, defend the working people of America, and meet the global challenges of our time. Democrats know how to do this. As I recall, President Clinton and the Democrats did it before. And President Obama and the Democrats will do it again.

He’ll transform our energy agenda by creating millions of green jobs and building a new, clean energy future. He’ll make sure that middle class families get the tax relief they deserve. And I can’t wait to watch Barack Obama sign a health care plan into law that covers every single American.

Barack Obama will end the war in Iraq responsibly and bring our troops home – a first step to repairing our alliances around the world. "

Your sorta sad BLT go read the speech .I am tired of blowing in the wind...and you have no ears.

Geez, I hate to paste this much, but here you go BLT. When she talks about why she ran for president she is linking it to why people should work hard to elect Barack, because they share the same goals.

I ran for president to renew the promise of America. To rebuild the middle class and sustain the American Dream, to provide the opportunity to work hard and have that work rewarded, to save for college, a home and retirement, to afford the gas and groceries and still have a little left over each month.

To promote a clean energy economy that will create millions of green collar jobs.

To create a health care system that is universal, high quality, and affordable so that parents no longer have to choose between care for themselves or their children or be stuck in dead end jobs simply to keep their insurance.

To create a world class education system and make college affordable again.

To fight for an America defined by deep and meaningful equality — from civil rights to labor rights, from women's rights to gay rights, from ending discrimination to promoting unionization to providing help for the most important job there is: caring for our families. To help every child live up to his or her God-given potential.

To make America once again a nation of immigrants and a nation of laws.

To bring fiscal sanity back to Washington and make our government an instrument of the public good, not of private plunder.

To restore America's standing in the world, to end the war in Iraq, bring our troops home and honor their service by caring for our veterans.

And to join with our allies to confront our shared challenges, from poverty and genocide to terrorism and global warming.

Most of all, I ran to stand up for all those who have been invisible to their government for eight long years.

Those are the reasons I ran for president. Those are the reasons I support Barack Obama. And those are the reasons you should too.

(snip)

We need leaders once again who can tap into that special blend of American confidence and optimism that has enabled generations before us to meet our toughest challenges. Leaders who can help us show ourselves and the world that with our ingenuity, creativity, and innovative spirit, there are no limits to what is possible in America.

(snip)

We need to elect Barack Obama because we need a President who understands that America can't compete in a global economy by padding the pockets of energy speculators, while ignoring the workers whose jobs have been shipped overseas. We need a president who understands that we can't solve the problems of global warming by giving windfall profits to the oil companies while ignoring opportunities to invest in new technologies that will build a green economy.

And he will have with him a terrific partner in Michelle Obama. Anyone who saw Michelle's speech last night knows she will be a great first lady for America.

Is that enough for you BLT?

McCain would be good for country music. We'd have more people living in squalor, doing dope and going to jail and those circumstances are where a few of the greats of country music learned to pick a guitar and write songs.  Then, when they hit it big they could get amnesia about their sordid lives write songs about what great patriots they are and how buying oil from the Arabs will help fund Al Queda and the Taliban so we can send our young people over to fight the evil doers and Halliburton can ship our kids home in boxes.  Great material for getting the blues and a boon to the Bakersfield and Nashville sound.

Oh. And I forgot to mention how we can then borrow from China where all our labor is outsourced these days in order to fund further military surges against the evil doers. Wonderful stuff for country music jingles. We're the world leaders in popular culture. You'll be rolling in money, BNR.

What "mysterious"?  It's *ALL* they've got.  McBush would be Shrub's third term crossed with Reagan's last few years.

HM--your comments totally hit the mark.  Hillary was being a class act by praising McCain's character.  She was also being a class act by trusting the judgement of the voters enough to point out that it's McCain's POLICIES we can't live with.

And your country music reference--tee hee hee!  If you don't watch it I'm gonna have to drive all the way to the desert and take you to lunch!

Blog roll,

Don't let these guys bum you out, they are all in Obama's camp and a little memorized by his beauty. They can't admit all clinton did was check the boxes and do the minimum.

The fact is no where in Clinton's speech did she address the her criticism's of Obama not being ready to lead, she ignored it.

I did not hear her spend much of her time talking about the one thing that McCain and her self criticized Obama.

He's not ready to lead.

But why should she, she got screwed by Obama and she want to run in 4 years.

What she did talk about is how great it was for her the hero to win so many votes, and how we were stopped but we just have to keep going. Then the part about how we need the 90's back. Again all Clinton

Lets just all be thankful that the Democrats are the ones that eliminated Clinton, she would have been tough to run against and even if we beat her fairly De ms would have said we just hate women and that's why she lost.

I love Politics, hey great job on the speech Clinton. We look forward to you and Bill voting McCain in NOv.

Chico, If McCain repeats Bush, gas will be 20 dollars a gallon, unemployment will be at 40% and millions will die every year from lack of basic services.

Of course, they'll be no lines at the gas stations...

The two short lines Hillary said about McSame, and then tearing him a new ***hole falls into the catagory of "I come to bury Caesar, not to praise him".

It's funny how the conservatives missed that.

He'd be good for global warming, too.

RF, there's just so much, I can't remember it all. But let's be sure to give credit for one of his many houses being a jail in Vietnam. You know? I mean, you know that POW experience and all? You, know, that time he was a POW and how it now is part of the answer to all the questions people ask him? You know? Let's not forget that.  And if the least of us is homeless, let's not forget that POW house because, hey, it's one of the many houses McCain lived in.

See, Hilliary's advice last night was to "keep moving" and that advise was for McStopped who is still living in that house, you know, in Vietnam.

Obama's not ready to lead?  Ha!  He's already leading.  Millions and millions of working class Americans are already following his leadership and have signed up to work for him and the whole world has rallied around him.  He is leading this country already.  Even George Bush is starting to do the things Obama has been recommending for a year.

McCain can't even run a campaign; how's he supposed to run a country?

posted by TSM on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:03 PM

McCain can't even run a campaign

That's why he's turned it over to Karl Rove surrogates and is no longer running his promised "respectable campaign".

posted by randomfactor on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:08 PM

Well, to be honest, it wasn't his choice.   They don't even let him talk on the cellphone anymore.

Obama's a large part of the reason why we'll be out of Iraq much sooner than McBush's "hundred years' war."  His foreign policy strategy helped bring down the price of crude oil.

posted by randomfactor on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:11 PM

and Barry will be Jimmy Carter Redux

Let's hope the Republans *LISTEN* this time, then.  Carter had it right on energy independence.  The senile actor who followed him ad-libbed rather than follow a perfectly good script.

Only difference will be gasoline will be $5 to $6 a gallon this time around!

And what would it be if McBush accidentally bombs Iran and closes the straits?

Gas at $6 a gallon and fuel economy twice what it is now--easily achievable--translates to gas at $3 a gallon.   McBush is opposed to raising CAFE standards.

posted by Ray_Harwick on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:12 PM

He's not ready to lead

We already know what this means. George Bush is still not ready and his identical twin, McBush III, has the same genetic handicap.

posted by TSM on Aug 27, 2008 at 12:15 PM

Carter also started the ball rolling on bringing inflation under control.

Ronnie got all the credit, but Carter is the one who did the heavy lifting.

What? Did you want Hillary to say he had a big package in order for the endorsement to be valid?

So superman, since you consider it a slight that Obama did not make her his running mate, will you go after McCain if he doesn't choose Mike Huckabee, who also came in second? Oh wait, that would be different right?

BLT, try and get used to being disappointed, especially when you are using petty non-issues to drum up a case against Obama. We understand that pettiness is all you have and that you're just taking your cue from McZero who is in crisis mode.  You're a lot more attractive when you "act naturally" so don't be surprised when taking your plays from an empty playbook means you are setting yourself up for failure. That's the natural outcome of having no substance.
