Too Early for this Christmas Song? Well, that's why I gave it that title

Are you one of those fools, like me, who can't wait to begin playing Christmas music until the socially accepted period beginning around the day after Thankgiving?

Well, now there's a song that you can play that will silence your critics.  It's a Christmas song, but it's also a song complaining about someone playing it too soon before Christmas.  After hearing the song, I decided I may send it to the Eagles to see if they might be interested in recording it.

It's based on an as-yet-unpublished story of mine in which a father scolding his son for playing Christmas music too early.  As an expression of poetic justice, the son writes down his father's words and puts them into this song.

It's the second song added to the new Christmas CD, Flock Watchin' featuring rock guitarist Tommy Isbell.  I gave him a break on this one, but he's planning on coming back to my studio again soon to join me on some great new tunes.

Stay "tuned" here:

and Merry C..., no, I guess it's a bit too early to say that.  Have a nice day!

they say it's too early for this Christmas song

and I know it's too early for this Christmas song

you're hopin' that this Christmas song would soon be gone

it's too early for this Christmas song

it's much too early for this Christmas song

it's way too early for this Christmas song

I know you don't even want this

song to belong

it's too early for this Christmas song

chorus:

wait a little longer

it'll be a little stronger

if you wait until December or

at least until November

wait a little longer

it'll be a little strong

if you wait

it's too early for this Christmas song

Deja vu!  I did something similar with a story theme which was really a halloween theme that turned out to be a Christmas theme.

I had a assignment to write for my creative writing class in college and it was in October. So I got the idea about, say, a teacher attempting to inspire ideas for writing to her students and she comes up with the Halloween theme of, "The Scaredest I Ever Was." (Okay, it was an Okie teacher, that's how we talk).  I thought, what if she gave that assignment and one of her students took it to heart and wrote about some horrible event that happened to him and his family, as opposed to what the teacher expecting kids to come back with stories where someone jumped out and said "Boo!".

So I wrote that story in the voice of a ten year old boy. It was autobiographical and I just told about the worst day of my youth when utter madness struck my father and put us all in danger.

Bruce, are you writing fiction as well as song lyrics?
