They should be taken as seriously as the next Joe. In other words, we all have opinions, but the ones that count are marked on little ballots. And even IF you voted for Bush, one shouldn't feel like they have to steadfastedly hold onto the wiseness of their choice, if they feel like he hasn't represented them well.
One difference is that even though us bloggers have an easy target in Bush, and the only reprocussions we may suffer by our opinions is a rant by Mucus as to how we are Commies if we don't follow our leader off the end of the Pier, those in the limelight (eg The Dixie Chicks), DO have the right to express their opinion, but the Public has the right not to buy their records if they find their comments distasteful. There are many factors that can be involved when a public figure makes political statements. It could be they have strong feelings and state them even though they realize this could hurt them, it could be that they didn't understand the monetary implications when they made the statements, or...it could be that their name hasn't been in the news lately so this is a good way to get it out there. I won't make a judgement on which of those things come into play with Ronstandt. As a moderate liberal, I KNOW that many of Hollywood's elite talk a good game, as long as it doesn't interfere with their lives. For instance they have a Prius in their garage, but they have 2,000 dollar a month PG&E Bills. It makes regular liberals cringe, especially if the celebrity is unliked in the first place. But many of the issues they address are real and need to be debated. In the end, I don't think comments by entertainers will sway a 30% approval rate either way. Their opinion weighs no more in the average American's lives than...well...the average American. posted by

Though I disagree with Joe Scarborough on many of my own "hotter" issues, he does deserve full credit for being a free-thinking conservative -- a brand of conservative now considered persona non grata among the GOP's powerbrokers and media parrots. posted by

I'm with you on that hardliner. I may have a difference of opinion with him on some issues, but he is much more tolerable than a Bill O'Reilly or Sean Hannity, who seem to wallow in their own self importance. Scarborough seems to slough off criticism with a shrug and make up his own mind about things. It seems like ALL news now is an editorial instead of a factual report.

Bush is not an idiot, I agree he is too smart for that, beside close counts only in horseshoes and hand granades.

I don't know if Antiex [posted above] considers himself a liberal, but he doesn't seem to think that Joe Scarborough is an idiot...

Hey, the good news is that Bush just spent an hour and fifteen minutes scaring the pants off the electorate about the evils of his "War on Terror" , that bad news is that he might be successsful when Foxnews goes positive 24/7 with the message.
Oh well, you deal with it I'm going back under the bed where I will be safe, I think I just saw an Arab looking man go down the street. posted by
