First KWMR's radio show, then Hank Ray's short film, now Rockwell's taking the B-town sound to TV
A full-on Bakersfield sound revival may gathering steam like the perfect storm. First, it was KWMR's Bakersfield and Beyond, the biggest radio show featuring Bakersfield sound music since the golden era of the Bakersfield sound. Then Hank Ray came out with the short horror flick centered on a giant ant invasion used as a metaphor for large record moguls coming in to exploit all vestiges of the Bakersfield sound. Now, after speaking on the phone to my good friend Rockwell, who runs Trout's the last of the great Bakersfield sound honky-tonks, I've learned that he's taking the sound to television, just like in the days of Cousin Herb's Trading Post. Does Heather Miles and Bill Mack ring any bells. Well, Rockwell's flying to Austin this week to work on production with big names like those on country music television via RFD TV. And he's already begun filming for a local country music show he's creating that will center on the Bakersfield sound. The cat's out of the bag. Just when Bakersfield Sound, and nu bako sound fans (aka k.c.c.rockers, standing for Kern County country rockers) and artists think it can't get any better, it does. And, as my favorite Canadian classic rock band said in a song, "You Ain't Seen Nothin' Yet." Be sure to tune in tonight to Bakersfield and Beyond to check out the Homer Joy interview. I'll be joining the crew via telephone a little later on in the show as their regular guest. Here are the details so you can be sure to tune in: Bakersfield and Beyond http://www.bakersfieldandbe...
