Not Ready to Make Rice: Dr. BLT's official Dixie Chicks parody release
Well, I had a few bugs to work out and a few arguably valid protests to consider before officially making this song available, but here it is, for your dining pleasure.  It is a follow-up to two other songs dissing the Chicks:

Playin' Politics with the Dixie Chicks

Dr BLT (c) 2007
http://www.drblt.net/music/...

and a song that appears to be following in the footsteps of another Dr. BLT song to hit #1 on the Living With War Today chart (Neil Young, Have You Forgotten, now at #117):
http://www.neilyoung.com/lw...

That song is the critically acclaimed:

Merle Hasn't Lost His Fightin' Side
Dr BLT
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2006
http://www.drblt.net/music/...

This song probably won't win a Grammy, but for those who love to tastefully diss the Dixie Chicks, it is certainly grist (or shall I say, rice?) for the mill:

Not Ready to Make Rice
Dr. BLT
words and music by Dr. BLT (c)2007
download the song for free here:

it's 2009 in China
the only place where they're still big
the Dixie Chicks are so darned big there
the only place where they can still
get a gig

but they're not ready to make rice
not ready to make the sacrifice
some day they may think twice
but as for now
they're not ready
to make rice

they're playin' their songs in China
Hong Kong would never gong their songs
but the Chicks are not too good with chop sticks
so they don't plan to stay too long

they're not ready to make rice
not ready to make the sacrifice
some day they may think twice
but as for now
they're not ready
to make rice

they were kidnapped just south of Shanghai
on their way to north Bejing
they demanded that they make some fried rice
'didn't care to make them sing

they're not ready to make rice
not ready to make the sacrifice
some day they may think twice
but as for now
they're not ready

to make rice

So as a musician, you are making a political statement Doc? So obviously you think it is okay to make a political statement as a musician, right?

So, if it is okay, then it must be that you think your political statement has more merit than theirs.

So what it boils down to is, the Dixie Chicks, preemptively, had the same view as what 2/3s of America does now, but now is the time to protest them. Hmmmmmmmmm.

Yeah, what's up with that? I thought you musician types were supposed to keep your opinions to yourself.

How does our BLT feel about the political statements being made by the pro-Bush country singers? The other day Allred aka Ron told me if I don't like the way things are here, I should leave, same as many of the country artists that sing about loving their country. I reminded Ron of something one of our presidents said:

"To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public."

It was a Roosevelt..but not Franklin.

Not Ready to Make Rice was not meant to be taken seriously.  It is just a silly parody.  The other songs are statements, but not so much political statements, they are statements about public statements made by big stars with big platforms.  I believe that when you are a big celebrity, you must go out of your way to express your opinion intelligently, respectfully and tactfully.

Many stars, including the Dixie Chicks have simply spouted off, without considering the manner, tone, and timing of their comments.  So everyone should be free to have an opinion on matters like the war, and to express it.  But I think we all need to be careful not to be divisive, disrespectful and careless with our comments, especially those who have a worldwide audience that is made up of individuals, and groups of individuals, who are  deeply impacted by every word.

Enjoyed the song.  My wife really liked it.  My problem with the Chicks, this is minor and uncomprehensible to some, but their statements should have been made here on our soil.  It would have been heard around the world but they should have the conviction of their opinions to voice them in the U.S.   I feel like they thought they were like the Hollywood crowd and immune to what they said as long as it was anti Bush.

Thanks, anglo1.  I'm glad you and your wife enjoyed the song.   You also make a very good point about the Dixie Chicks.  It's like they say about what's most important in real estate: Location, location, location!  It's a matter of opening their mouths before engaging their brains,  And it's a matter of considering the implications of their words and who they were directed towards.  And their lack of readiness in terms of "making nice" is a matter of arrogance.  If they were more humble, perhaps people would be more forgiving.

This is also tongue in cheek Bruce....;)

It's 2007 here in B-town

And the Country is still run by a clown

But freedom of speech still prevails

Despite the Crucifixion without  any nails

And the Chicks did indeed sacrifice

A lotta dough to give voice to their rights

Someday Doc may think twice

But as yet 2/3s of America won't suffice

He's not ready to blame Bush for his lies

Despite thousands continuing to die

Antiwar quotes don't measure up to treason

When you attack a nation for bad reason

We're now heading into our 5th season

And our boyz are still dying Doc Thiessen

And the brave are willing to sacrifice

But turning Marines into cops just ain't nice

This is only conjecture not advice

But maybe the French are who's wise

Perhaps we can stop calling them Freedom Fries

Damn, now I know I've lost any chance of getting rich from my music too. I might not get a
"Grammy", but I think I'm definitely in line for a "Hammy".    LOL

The best form of compliment for a songwriter is that someone who confronts his work, uses that work as a springboard in which to launch into his/her own creative expression.  So I won't put myself in the position of judging your lyrical composition.  I'll merely accept it as a compliment and thank you from the bottom of my heart for offering it so freely.

LOL. I like the retort Doc. It's sorta like saying "I can't endorse Anti's lyrical talents enough".

Sadly, my musical talent lies somewhere between Roseanne Barr for singing, Norm Crosby for lyrical content, and Wiliam Hung for stage presence.

Don't be so hard on yourself, anti.  I'm a huge Hung fan.  Remember: One person's junk is another person's treasure.
