2/28/07 Paint it Black.  It's a song I used to love, but could never relate to entirely.  Now, sadly, I can relate to it.  I know that getting depressed is a common reaction that Alzheimer's patients experience, especially as they approach the middle stage of the disease.  But I'm determined not to succumb to such a common predilection.   Besides, sitting around moping about what seems to be my ineluctable fate won't help to improve matters and may even...
On the outside, they look like they have all their ducks in a row, in one, several, or nearly all areas of their lives.  But internally, they are imploding.  I'm talking about the ostensibly "functional" alcoholic.  Today, I'm going to unveil the first entry in the diary of fictional character, Edward Pope, supposed "functional" alcoholic.   I hope you will be entertained, engaged, and educated by your perusal of this first entry...

Well, I had a few bugs to work out and a few arguably valid protests to consider before officially making this song available, but here it is, for your dining pleasure.  It is a follow-up to two other songs dissing the Chicks: Playin' Politics with the Dixie Chicks Dr BLT (c) 2007 http://www.drblt.net/music/... and a song that appears to be following in the footsteps of another Dr. BLT song to hit #1 on the Living With War Today chart (Neil Young, Have You Forgotten,...

2/20/07 I had a great sleep last night and I'm looking forward to continuing my head trip.  Allow me a moment to slip out of my sleeping bag and slip under the cortex of subject, John Dole, adolescent post-punk rocker.  Wow!  Just look at that limbic system.  I see that all parts are present and accounted for.  The thalamus, the hippocampus, and amygdala and the fornix.  Cool.  There are even a few parts I didn't immediately recognize.  I...

I'm not cruel, and I won't wait any longer to answer to rumors concerning the question of if I will release a cover of Cake's The Distance, in honor of Kevin Harvick's victory at the Daytona 500. The answer is a resounding "MAYBE!"  Cake is actually working on a compilation of Cake covers and invites members of the public at large to cover one of their songs.  I may consider such a cover.  I will keep you posted. In the meantime, you'll just have to settle for this...

Nobody loves the war in Iraq.  Nobody loves war-----------period.   Or do they?   You don't even have to enter any quarters into my blog n roll jukebox.  Simply watch this new music video by Cake, who covers Black Sabbath's War Pigs, and, instead of quarters, enter comments.  Is this an accurate depiction of what our fearless leaders have been doing in Iraq, or is it just another example of witholding support for the troops, while giving comfort and aid to...

Happy Valentines Day!  I don't mean to bring you down.  Rather, with this song, and with these words, I'd like to bring somebody up.  I'm talking about the homeless.  I'm talking about posting this  blog thread as a forum for raising all kinds of create ideas concerning meeting the needs of homeless people. What are your ideas concerning how to address the problem of homelessness, in this land, and throughout the world?  What are some long-term...

Listen to Gnarls Barkley's Crazy.  Then listen to the Dixie Chicks Not Ready to Make Nice.  Then ask which song won for song of the year.   If you guessed the Dixie Chicks, you understand the meaning of "something is wrong with this picture."  Listen to the entire Dixie Chicks album.  Then ask yourself is it sounds like a serious contender for Album of the Year.  The Dixie Chicks not only won album of the year and country album of the year for...

2/06/07 Today I slipped on my mircroscopic suit, crawled under a set of headphones, and inside the ear of John Dole, a sixteen-year-old post-punk, alternative rock, and emo junkie, and embarked upon a miraculous journey through his rock-infested mind.   First of all, I toured the brain stem, which seemed to have some connection to the spinal cord.  As I observed this intriguing region, I noted that the brain stem seemed to be transmitting...

Hello friends, family and fans (too few of you):This would be considered shameless self-promotion, but I feel very ashamed. You all know that if anyone hates to brag, it’s me :) But it looks like I made this rock critics list of top songs of 2006. You’ll find my song, Neil Young (Have You Forgotten) right here sitting as the number 8 record of 2006. It’s the second consecutive chart I’ve hit over the past 2 years, so it’s not too shabby. I give the glory to...
