Dwight Sings Buck vs. Confessions of a Buckaholic:
A comparative CD review by Dr BLT
A Sneak Preview of forthcoming Phantom Tollbooth review:
http://www.tollbooth.org
Dwight Yoakham’s Dwight Sings Buck may be more aptly titled, Dwight Channels Buck, not only because of the verasimilitude between the two artists, in terms of their respective styles, but because, somehow, Dwight is able to fuse Buck’s spirit with his own as he embarks upon this musical journey through 15 Owens...

Where can you find a live audience to perform your karaoke faves in the middle of your lunch hour? Go no further than your nearest Costco. They allow, yes, even encourage, shoppers to sing as a way of showcasing their karaoke machines.
I think I may have actually clinched a sale today, after my performance of (I Can't Get No) Satisfaction by the Rolling Stones. The first words I heard as I put the mic down were, "I'll pay with credit." (To be fair, I don't...
God's dreams are not always our dreams and our dreams are not always God's dreams. Some dreams don't come true, but some do. Maybe I haven't made it as a rock star, not yet anyway, but God, in all of his mysterious wisdom, has a way of lining up divine appointments between myself and local rock stars :). In the summer, it was Brian Welch,

now it's the band Lost Ocean. I ran into Jeff, the lead singer,...
Why do I get up so early in the morning to rock and roll? Two reasons: 1. The early bird (rooster, in this case), gets the worm, and 2. To quote from a future song title of mine, When the Cock Crows, the Rock Flows.
Two new dates have been added:
Here are the details:
Rubio's Rosedale Rockin' Rooster Show featuring Dr BLT (unplugged, el fresco performance)
***Yes, it's me, Dr BLT, as seen on MTV-Award-nominated Music Video by the band Cake; as aired on local...
RU in need some early morning adreneline but can't stand the taste of coffee, or do you love coffee, but need an additional Monday morning boost (it's right next to Starbucks)? Meet me on the patio of Rubios on Rosedale Highway just east of Calloway for a performance of my best Dr BLTunes.
This is the first in a series of Rubio's Rosedale Rockin' Rooster Shows. With the exception of days when I feature special guests, it will be just you, me, my guitar and my collection...
AllRED for president? Republicans, just when you thought we had nobody man enough to beat Hillary, here comes Bakersfield.com's own AllRED. I stumbled across his platform in the comments section under one of the blog posts and couldn't resist featuring it here. Red states? Blue States? Looking into the future, I see them becoming AllRED. How about you?
Seeing I have been ask to make a run for the Vice or President job let me...
Yes, Ed, father of this fictional Kern County Family of 4, and fictional blog reality show star, will be forced to face a medical crisis and will draw strength from a local hero, who happens to be an award-winning bakesfield.com writer and blogger. This will bring the family together, at least temporarily, and will allow them to put political differences and interpersonal family conflicts at bay, at least for the time being.
That's all for now. I'll meet you in the next...
It's official. Rumors that the Bakersfield.com fictional blog reality show known as Meet the Bloggers: Kern County Family of 4 being cancelled are categorically false. In fact, there is some speculation that the rumor itself may not even exist. Just thought I'd clear that up for you hard-core fans. When will the next episode be released to the public? Well, that is yet to be determined, but rumor has it, it will be a Halloween special.
Can you imagine another battle between the Clintons and the Bushes? Does Laura Bush have any presidential aspirations of her own? Can you imagine keeping this Bush/Clinton/Bush dynasty lasting beyond 2012? If Laura Bush ever decides to run, would she have what it takes to beat Hillary? I just thought I'd throw this out there to see if anyone bites at the bait or chomps at the bit.
Well, the Christmas season is rapidly approaching, at leat in the minds of singer/songwriters planning for Christmas album releases. This Christmas, I'm planning on releasing a brand new album of mostly original Christmas material.
When I have time, on my way to my day job, I stop at Starbucks, have some coffee and a scone, read the paper and then settle down at an outdoor table to write a song or two before heading off to work. So far, I've written 4 new songs for the new...
Christianity is a powerful force for liberation, but, in its contaminated, control-fueled form, it can be a lethal force of oppression and a harbor for hatred.
If you've ever been oppressed by Christianity, in its contaminated form, you can be liberated by being part of the solution, not part of the problem. Being part of the solution means identifying FACTIONS OF FORCE within Christianity and countering them by creating your own FACTION OF FAITH. FAITH...
Has somebody ever taken a Bible verse out of context and used it to condemn you? Have you ever suffered through a hell, fire and brimstone message from the pulpit? Have your parents ever used the Bible as a way to make you feel guilty and ashamed for being a human being? If so, you may be a victim of BIBLE ABUSE.
Bible abuse is real. I'm a recovering victim, though "victim" is actually an inadequate term, because, as a "victim" recovery is...
Whenever you insist on paying for something instead of stealing it, you are pushing God on people. But I don't blame you. It's also part of our cultural heritage. You may have even attended a winter carnival or play at your child's school, where money was exchanged. Guess what? If you're one who is trying to rid our society of all references to God, then you've crossed your own rigid boundaries between church and state. So, even if you pass these bills...
Trick or Treat?: Family Skeletons Always Seem to Come out of the Closet during the Holidays
Ordinary People: A retrospective psychoMOVIEanalysis by psychologist, Bruce L. Thiesen, Ph.D., aka Dr. BLT
Like Delores Claiborne, Ordinary People is set in a season that is often cold, damp and marked by leaves that turn color and become brittle. As such, it provides the optimal environmental context for the story of a cold, brittle mother and wife, fixated within a rigid,...
We'll just skip the Pledge of Allegiance. That's the attitude of a few teachers and a few schools in Kern County, where taking cultural history for granted seems to be a new trend.
But that's not going to happen if this man has anything to do with it.
Shall we make this man the hero of the day, or should that title be reserved for Chad Vegas?
In the game of blog n roll, that's one thing I won't have to decide. You get to, in the comments section below,...
The threat of another terrorist attack on American soil continues to loom on the horizon. Somehow, heretofore (knock on wood) Bush has managed to keep the terrorists at bay in terms of striking on American soil post 9/11. What is Bush's secret? Is it his fool-proof strategery? Does it have anything to do to his policies? Does he possess super powers as the Great Protector? Or is he, and are we, simply lucky?
In the game of blog n roll, I...
Dr BLT's 5 Steps to Overcoming Shame over being Proud of the President
Here they are. Count 'em, practice 'em, and overcome your shame over being proud of the President.
1. Admit that you're proud of the President.
2. Admit that you're ashamed of being proud of the President, and vow to be proud of your pride in the President.
3. Be prepared to be called names like "Friend of Hitler Lite."
4. Be prepared to have your...
Sure, he's made lots of mistakes, but I'll never forget how he provided such comfort to a nation in shock and a nation asunder by the events of 9/11. There are still many things we can be proud of about our President. I'd like us to start looking at his positive qualities and not just his negative ones. He's been a strong advocate for the unborn. He's stood up against terrorists. He visited the troops on many occasions to boost their morale.
He's...
Last Christmas was not too peaceful on the home front, right here at Bakersfield.com.
We fought like cats and dogs about what to call the holiday. With all of the fuss over the poster reminding students of the motto on their dollar bills, I can just imagine of the battles that we may have to face again this year. This year, let's all vow not to do that.
Here's what I propose: If it's painful for you to say Happy Holidays! to someone who does not share your Christmas...
Don't shoot the messenger. To woefully pervert the lyrics of a perfectly good John Lennon just a tad, "All we are saying, is, give war a chance." I'm generally a lover, not a fighter. And I'm a lover of peace, not a bellicose war-monger. I'm not for war, if it can be avoided. But now that we are in it, I suggest we remain in it to win it.
I believe that some spirited bloggers here have been just a little...
Today I've begun my comparative reviews of Bruce Springsteen's Magic and Neil Young's Livin' with War. They will be published here, and in other magazines and/or ezines in the near future, along with the blog n roll song I am releasing the lyrics of, today. I'll keep you posted on my musically-enhanced comparative review. Today, I've also prepared this little teaser for you.
So far, Springsteen is way ahead, thanks to an artistic secret Neil Young, otherwise a...
I used to tow the conservative, right-wing line on the subject of all matters concerning motos such as IN GOD WE TRUST. But, as a recovering fundamentalist, I now see both sides of the issue.
Do I really want people to be force-fed my faith, the same way it was all too often force-fed upon me? Do we trust the motto, or The Maker, to melt our hearts, to move our souls, and to mold our nation? The song that keeps coming to mind is the song that boldly...
