Well, the guest on this new addition to the Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh CD is known for being unknown and wished to maintain her anonymity.  This is one of the few songs on the CD that is a cover, and not an original.  But I'm sure you'll agree that it is an original arrangement of a classic Christmas hit.  Here's I Wonder and I Wander.  Or is it, I Wander as I Wonder?  I wonder?!!

Music and Mental Health: This is a new series I've intiated for the benefit of my patients, but if there are others who also derive mental health sustainance through the music offered here, more power to you!  Nothing soothes the savage beast like a live performance by one of gospel music's greatest legends, Andrae Crouch.  In Soon and Very Soon, he offers hope to the weary soul and saturnine psyche by pointing to the anticipation of the return of the King of Kings.

That's right, so confident, I'm willing to put money on it----not necessarily that you'll agree that the CD is incredible, or the song, for that matter, but that the song is called Incredible. The song itself came to me in a flash one morning as I was sitting in my home before the sound gear.  I originally planned for this song to be released without the electric guitar, but when Tommy Isbell laid down the guitar work as an experiment, he won me over in a heartbeat.  This, of...

It was a spontaneous decision.  My country rock version of Your Not the Kinda Ho (That Santa Had in Mind) has produced thousands of downloads.  I was at the Valley Plaza the other day and wanted to record something at Creative Studios (they have a recording booth set up for several weeks as a promotional effort).  I was on a lunch break so I only had half an hour before I had to go back to my day job and see patients.  I still hadn't decided what I wanted to record,...

It's hard to believe that my CD release party/signing, is coming up this Saturday at 6 pm, but the time is at hand, and the Christmas crunch is on.  This morning I got up at 5 to complete this song, along with several others that will be added to my Christmas CD entitled Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh. For those who wish to attend, the CD release party is at Russo's Books at the Marketplace.  Ho Ho Hope to see you there for some live performances with special guests Tommy...
I was lining up musicians for my November 21st recording session at Bakersfield School of Music and Recording.  I called my favorite percussionist and good friend, Walter Stormont to see if he could make it to the session and to the CD release party.  I lucked out.  He was available for both the session and the gig.  In the course of our conversation about all things Christmas, I asked him if he was going to design a new Christmas card this year, in keeping his...

The year the song was first recorded was 1992.  The song was called Black Santa.  It was Dr BLT's first Christmas song to crack the top 30 at mp3000.net.  The song tells a story about a black man trying to get a job as Santa Claus.  This old school rap Dr BLTune features Michael C., a rap artist out of Oakland, California, who was residing right Bakersfield at the time Dr BLT took it to his studio to record.  Here's the question: How many years did it take...

I woke up on Saturday, November 17 at 5:45 am with a new story in my head, and the story gave birth to a new song.  It's the latest addition to Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh, my forthcoming Christmas CD to be released at Russo's on December 1 at 6 pm.  Here are the lyrics: Silent Knight words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2007 a knight was riding through the forest on a cold December's eve when he came across a sight before him that caused his horse to fall to her...

DR BLTV presents Bakersfield's Own Lost Ocean Welcome to Dr BLTV.  Today I'm going to spin something from a band I recently had the pleasure of interviewing. It was an exciting two-part interview.  We wrapped it up today at Starbucks on Rosedale Highway.  Here they are "live" for your listening pleasure.  My interview with them and my Lost Ocean CD review should be up at tollbooth.org in the December edition.  Keep your eyes open for that, and your ears...

Hi, I'm Dr. BLT, your one-song-at-time B-town VJ.  This is a very old song, but probably new to most U.S. citizens.  I was fortunate enough to grow up with it, and with the music of Stompin' Tom Conners.  Now I'd like to share it with all of you.

I'm in the process of preparing the song list for my forthcoming Sunday Mornin' Comin' Down show for November 11.  After picking my favorite among Johnny Cash's favorite Christmas songs, selecting a few of my faves from Johnny Cash's mother's hymn book, adding a few of my favorite standard Christmas songs and a few from my forthcoming Christmas CD, I still have room for your requests.  I'm now officially accepting your requests.  They can be your favorite Johnny Cash songs,...

Blog in Black by the Fan in Black This is one of my all-time favorite Johnny Cash songs, and the spirit of the song is aptly captured right here, in the course of his live performance at San Quentin.  BTW, Bakersfield's own Merle Haggard did some time at SQ.  I did most of my time (as a shrink and singer/songwriter that is) at California State Prison, Solano, where I got to play Johnny Cash one day:  http://www.tollbooth.org/20... Meet me every Sunday morning on the patio of Rubios on Rosedale Highway just east of Calloway for a performance of my best Dr BLTunes at 8 am.  For the next couple of months, I'll be playing Johnny Cash songs, "altar'd" hymns, as well as songs from my forthcoming Christmas CD, Straw from the Stable.  These Sunday morning shows are special editions of my Rubio's Rosedale Rockin' Rooster Shows.  With the exception of days when I feature special guests, it will...
No, he's not the King of Kings, but he's the King of Rock n Roll.  And I'm king of nothing, unless King of Blog n Roll counts for anything.  But I am hoping to intregrate a variety of styles for my forthcoming Christmas CD, and Elvis is one artist I'm studying for this purpose.  Check him out here, singing Blue Christmas, "Live" on stage.

Nobody who has studied the history of science can deny the significance of Aristotle, and Descartes, two of the most important founding fathers in the world of science.  If there had been no Aristotle, there would be no science, as we know it today.  Without Descartes, the same could be said.  What a legacy these believers, yes, even advocates of Intelligent Design have left the field of science.  So can we stop treating those who believe in Intelligent Design like...

Tis the season to be up in arms about the use of waterboarding.  But how soft is too soft and how hard is too hard when we're talking about those intent on destroying innocent human lives in suicide mission?  Some would rather that we go snowboarding with would-be terrorists.  But should interrogation be restricted to fun activities.  Is waterboarding torture?   Fortunately, I don't have to answer these questions.  As a blog n roll artist, I simply put the...

Welcome to Bitchin' Moandays, my new VJ Monday feature!  Good afternoon!  I'm Dr BLT and I'll be your one-song VJ.  Today I'm featuring Bitchin' Moanday artist, Beck.  He bitches and moans like a real pro on this song, Loser.  Beck is a real "rock n role model" of mine.  He's all over the map, stylistically, just like me, only much better at his craft.  I can only aspire to one day move in successive approximations to his level of deft...

It's November 5 and it's nearly 7 am.  I'm hanging out at my own personal home studio, and I've just mixed down a brand new original Dr BLTune for my new Christmas CD, tentatively entitled Straw Straight from the Stable.  The new song, a rock number, is entitled Christmas Couldn't Come 2 Soon. I've posted a sample of that song and will added the lyrics later today.  I've also put the finishing touches on I'm the Star of Bethlehem, not to be confused with a previously number...
It's the show you don't ask to participate in.  It's the show you don't sign up for.  It's Dr BLT's Involuntary Talent Show.  Today's "guest" is Tiffany Joe Allen.  Here she is singing a cover of Rihanna's Umbrella.  How woul you rate her performance? As the judge of this competition (you're the jury), I think it's pretty good.  It's kind of a Nashville West interpretation of the song.  It's not perfect, but it's pure.  I like it.  I...

Here's a cause everyone can support, whether you are anti-war or pro peace through strength.  I'm not Rush Limbaugh, or a rock star for that matter, so I don't expect donations here to rise to rock star or Rush levels.  However, I hope to raise a few dollars to support families who have lost loved ones in the war.  Your donations will go to The Marine Corps--Law Enforcement Foundation, a registered charity providing financial assistance to children of fallen marines or law...
