How shall the international community respond to the brutal assassination of Benazir Bhutto, a world leader and a champion for democracy?  It starts with the individual.  Each person must first find a way to express his/her emotions and thoughts.  Then, collectively, we can make a statement.  That statement should be that we not live in accordance with the wishes of terrorists, namely, to life a life paralyzed by fear (hardly a life at all).  We must express our...

Maybe I put too much stock in music, but, idealistic as it may seem, I believe that music has the power to be an ally in the war on terror---a weapon of mass construction if you will.  In the psychological operations of the military (psyops), the threat is real, and it is psychological.  The threat is fear.  If terrorists can use the assassination of pro-democratic world leaders and the mass murder of scores of civilians via homicide bombings to raise fear levels around the...

That's right.  Ring out the old, bring on the new.  If you're scheduled for a New Years Eve gig, and you'd like to compliment the old songs with something brand new for the New Year, try playing this brand new Dr BLTune called Spread Some New Year Cheer.  Or if you're hooking up with friends and/or family for a New Year's bash and want to sing something before Same Old Lang Syne, try this one.  The music is quite simple.  If you'd like to spread the song...

Yes, it's come and gone again, but let's take this opportunity to share our Christmas memories and to present our hopes for the coming New Year.  The game of blog n roll is easy.  I provide mostly original tunes from my blog n roll jukebox and introduce the corresponding topic, and you supply the comments. I hope you all had a very Merry Christmas Day and I wish you all a Happy New Year!

Merry Christmas is a greeting that can be uttered in many ways, some verbally, and some non-verbally.  Acts can be more powerful than verbal greetings, and nothing says MERRY CHRISTMAS more than doing just the right thing at the right time for that special person(s).  Has somebody done or said something for you that made such a positive impact that all other ways of saying MERRY CHRISTMAS pale in comparison?  If so, share it in the comments section below. The song you're...

Merry Christmas to all my fans---------all six of you! If my most requested song of the day is any indication, people, on this Christmas Day, are already looking towards New Year and are counting on it being a bright 2008.  Future 2 Behold seems to have been adopted by internet "downloaders" as a New Year's theme song.  Today it climbs even higher on the Dr BLT charts than You're Not the Kind of Ho (that Santa Had in Mind), the song that drops to number two even as it...

For the few of you that are actually following my musical journey, and want to see me succeed at this craft of songwriting, here's a bit of news for you: On this Christmas Eve, as candidates take a break from seeking out key endorsements to spend time with the family, it appears that this song of mine, from the newly released CD, Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh, has picked up an endorsement of sorts, making  the top of this "playlist" over at berkelyplace: ...
Happiness is contagious, as is holiday cheer.  But nothing reinforces another's Blue Christmas more than somebody is overjoyed while he/she is suffering from some type of profound loss or deep seasonal sorrow.  There are plenty of songs for those who are in a state of seasonal suffering.  Hard Candy Christmas, Blue Christmas, What Kinda Christmas has This Become, and many more. As I mentioned, I can't stop crying now when I hear Dan Fogelberg's Same Old Lang Syne.  ...

That's not us in the photo.  Periodically, during this CDiary series, I will feature photos of genre's that will have their influence on the music that is being produced. It's after midnight, and I'm still running on the energy that was produced by what is now last night's recording session at Bakersfield School of Music and recorded.  When you're surrounded with talent such as the type and abundance of talent produced by local artists such as Patrick Jarret (vocalist); Walter...

It's been kind of a whirlwind romance with brand new, original Christmas songs.  This year, I woke up with a new one bouncing around in my head almost every morning.  The end result was my most successful CD release parties to date, the first, on December 1st at Russo's Books, and the second, at Starbucks on Rosedale and Calloway on Thursday, December 20.  I want to thank Tommy Isbell, Walter Stormont, Jerry Rothberg, and Pat Frase who added their talents to the...
His songs were deeply personal.  He wrote and recorded some of the most touching ballads of the 70s and 80s.  Now he's gone, but we'll remember Dan, and his songs. Feel free to use the comments section to post your thoughts, poems, songs and links.  I'll start it off with my new tribute song.  It's at my website among the free mp3 downloads today: http://www.drblt.net Dan, this one's for you! It'll Never be the same Auld Lang Syne words and music by Dr BLT...
Though things seem to have stabilized, to some extent, of late, the loss of soldiers (heaven's gain) over the past year has been overwhelming and sad.  We can all unite in grief, whether you support Bush's international policy, and this war, or not.  Silent Knight is one of three Dr BLTunes that will be distributed among the troops this year, with lots of help from HEARTS OF OUR SOLDIERS.  It is dedicated to those members of our military who have lost their lives over...

Blog in Black Johnny Cash was a big influence on my latest Christmas CD, Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh.  But he has always been a big influence, and he continues to be.  Sometimes at Christmas, I get sick of all the syrupy, sticky sweet Christmas songs, enjoyable as they may be on most days and nights as we approach that glorious Christmas Day.   That's when the Christmas songs of Johnny Cash appeal to me most.  Download the song, Johnny Cash (The Ghost of...

On the heels of the CD release party (part II) for Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh, the CD picked up the BIG 2 THUMBS up by this critic: http://www.tollbooth.org/20... Although, as they used to say in Wayne's World, "I'm unworthy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!"  It was great to pick up the big 2 thumbs up right before another "live" performance of the songs we'll be doing this Thursday evening. I'm just conducting a little test that requires a little feedback from you, the blog visitor.  I'm talking about the image that come up the same on every post.  I switched to a new seasonal image, just me sitting beside a tree with blinking lights.  I noticed that I see it on certain, but not all computers.  I'm just kind of curious if it comes up blank on your screen, or if you can see the image.  If nobody sees it, there's no sense posting it.

Well, the moment has arrived.  I had to bootleg it myself before anybody else did.  It's my new Rudolf parody, entitled: Rudy, the Redneck, With Beer, from next year's Christmas CD, Big Bulbs from Dr BLT's Novelty Tree.  STAY TUNED (literally) to Big Bulbs and to my latest CD, Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh, right here: http://www.drblt.net Lyrics to this one will be (hopefully) added later today! Bakersfield is a small town.  You never know just which big rock star(s) you'll run into. Just a few months after I stumbled across ex-Korn Nu metal guitar sensation cum New York Times bestselling author, Brian "Head" Welch, and interviewed him, I stumbled across another local "once-lost-now-found" sensation, Lost Ocean, and interviewed them.  Then, just a few days later, on Thanksgiving weekend, I ran into Brian Welch again, and talked about not-so-old...
It's been four years since Saddam was captured, but every Christmas we should thank God (and the good old USA) for the Christmas gift that keeps giving.  Sure, even in the face of positive new developments in Iraq, there are many who wish we hadn't gone into Iraq, but who, among you would actually love to see Saddam back in charge?  Celebrate the anniversary of his capture with me with this song, from next year's Christmas release: Big Bulbs from Dr BLT's Novelty Christmas...

Rudolf, the Red-nosed Reindeer isn't just a fun story to tell children at Christmastime.  It teaches them a valuable lesson concerning physical imperfection and self-esteem.  It teaches them that a supposed physical flaw or handicap can actually become a strength that let's them rise to the very top of the heap. The Bible, more specifically, the Apostle Paul, teaches us a similar lesson as adults.  He teaches us that God's strength is revealed through our weakness, and that...

Every Christmas, more lights and more, fancier decorations are added to houses in my neighborhood as things appear to be getting more competitive.  It's not that difficult to keep up with the Joneses when it comes to decorating the house for Christmas. What is more challenging than decorating the house is decorating the heart.  Christmas is the time to display hope, good will, peace, and love towards our fellow humans (and animals).  It's not hard to appear to possess these...

It's been a very successful year for me, with my latest CD, Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh poised to become my biggest-selling CD ever.  In addition, several songs have had, not millions, but thousands of downloads over the past year. I've been on MTV, many times, and I've made several top mp3 download internet charts and best records of charts.  But I've yet to appear in Billboard magazine. SO FAR, NO CATEGORY FOR BLOG N ROLL MUSIC HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED.  Not to...

Most of my Christmases have been nearly picture perfect.  But there are at least a couple that I'd rather forget.  One of those was the Christmas of '85 when my then girlfriend and I broke up just a few days before Christmas.  I went through the motions, but clearly lost my Ho-ho Mojo, and just wasn't feeling it, if you know what I mean. How about you?  If there's a Christmas you'd rather forget, share it in the comments section below.  I don't want to bring anybody...

Dr BLT's CDiary: aka Daddy's Diary It's December 10, just 15 days before Christmas Day.  I'm hear to talk about Prancer's on Prozac, the latest addition to Big Bulbs from Dr BLT's Novelty Christmas Tree.  one of two CDs that are planned for release in Christmas of '08.  This song came to me, initially, just prior to the Christmas of 2004, as a "shrink" rap.  The song came to me suddenly, and I scribbled the lyrics on what I had handy at the time----the inside...

Although she's much too young to read, this diary is for my daughter's eyes only, for the sake of posterity.   But one thing she will realize about her daddy as time moves on is that he didn't mind sharing his musical journey with other travelers.   It's Sunday, December 9, 2007.  Today is my anniversary.  Kassidy, your mother and I have been married about 12 years.  Mama's still sleeping.  And yes, you can come along when your mama and I go out to...

I've been performing outdoors at Starbucks for about 10 years (including the one in Sacramento).  Once in awhile, they invite me in for an "official" show.  December 20,  2007 at 7 pm at Starbucks at the Rosedale Highway Target/Coles shopping center, will be one of those rare events.  If any of you who have broken into my CDiary missed the first part of that CD release party for Certified Gold, Incense and Myrrh, now is your time to catch songs from the CD...
I would like the US and allied troops in Iraq and elsewhere around the world to really feel our love and support during the holidays.  If any of you know of any programs involved in putting together Christmas care packages for the troops--------programs that could find a way to get mp3 or hard copies of this Dr BLTune to members of the troops, please add your suggestions and/or links in the comments section below. Arnold is far from perfect, but he did something very right early in his first term in office.  He took Gray's "Holiday Tree" and changed the name back to the "Christmas Tree."  It was a noble tree, and a noble act.  http://www.sacunion.com/pag... The act spawned a new song that will be added shortly to my Big Bulbs from Dr BLT's Novelty Christmas Tree CD.   Today, I have two Dr BLTrivia questions for you: ...
Today marks the beginning of a new CD taking shape.  It is a sort of greatest novelty Christmas hits collection.  It's called Big Bulbs from Dr BLT's Novelty Christmas Tree. The first song to be added will be this, my new story-telling song about a man haunted by a stalker at Christmas time.  Other songs to be included on the CD will be Santa Lost His Ho in Sydney, Black Santa, You're Not the Kinda Ho that Santa Had in Mind.  The list will grow, until the tree is...
