Happy Thanksgiving! Be thankful, be very thankful! The movie, Twilight, a vampire love story, has become a phenomenon, but few people realize that it has a theme song. The reason: It's an unofficial theme song. I was a day late and a dollar short when it came time to submit it for consideration for the movie, so it shall remain underground. Here's a special seasonal edition containing a Christmas introductory skit for your entertainment pleasure. Check out this...
Welcome to the blog n roll game, Bakersfield Sound Trivia Quest. I'm Dr. BLT, and I'll be your humble host. Today's question is based on the fictional song about a Christmas dinner I alledgedly had with Merle Haggard. The song is called My Christmas Dinner with Merle Haggard.
You must answer both trivia questions to receive your free copy of the CD (you must be one of the first 1,000 to attend the CD release party, and you must be picked up at the...

The song, The Day Merle Haggard Stole my Pen, was a true story. This one is true, only in my dreams. I plan to record it and add it to my Ice and Snow CD, scheduled for release on December 6 at Russo's books at the Marketplace on Ming at 7 pm.

Welcome to my new blog series, Saddle Up Your Psyche, a series designed to offer coping strategies for handling the recession, and the often worrisome wake it leaves behind.
I'm Dr. BLT and I'll be your host. Pictured here, is Bakersfield's very own Rockwell, the music mogul who runs Kern County's final honkytonk frontier---Trout's Nightclub and Blackboard Stages. This photo is one I just happen to have taken when I was at Trout's pallin' around with...

Ice and snow during the holidays can be romantic, but it can also be ravaging. Such is the case of the chilling frost of 1937 and the great frost of 1990.
Many are facing unspeakable hardship this Thanksgiving/Christmas season. When you listen to the music of the first wave of Bakersfield sound artists, you can tell that many found comfort and strength in their music that helped them survive the great depression.
In facing hard times, sometimes it's therapeutic and...
One of the recurrent themes in my forthcoming Christmas CD, Ice and Snow (scheduled for release at a party at Russo's on December 6 at 7 pm) is the anticipated and as-yet-unanticipated effects of the economic downturn on Christmas. The brand new, original song I am about to introduce to you is one of those songs representing that theme.

A comment that could be taken as a general, unspecific threat, or one conjuring up violent images, is wrong, and should not be allowed by bakersfield.com. By the same token, taking it to the level of threatening somebody's family, and especially innocent children, is extremely disturbing and should never happen.
Audrey, I don't like the tone of your original, provocative statement, but I feel very bad for you, and I support and defend you on this one. I would do the same...
One of my biggest critics in this blog community recently posted a comment something to the effect of me being as far away from an example of a follower of Christ as one could possibly be. Well, I had to reluctantly agree, because, as a follower of Christ, I am constantly missing the mark. I've often described myself as a stumbling follower and a doubting believer and that pretty much sums it up.
Yes, in my walk of faith, it's all too often one step forward and two steps...
I don't know about you, but I find partisan arguments extremely exhausting, divisive, and, more often than not, counter-productive. That's why I'm now introducing my new blog n roll series for folks in need of a rest and retreat from the blog wars.
Why Can't we all Just Get a Song serves an even higher, more noble purpose. It revolves around the idea that music helps us overcome our barriers and brings people of disparate world views, opinions, and even religions (or...
No matter what our party affiliation is, we all forget to say thank you sometimes. It's easy to run with a victory without stopping to thank those who showed the most overwhelming support for a particular measure or candidate.
Will conservatives take the African-American vote for granted? 7 in 10 African-Americans voted to support the ban on gay marriage. Will conservatives forget to thank Kern county residents? I think about 7 in 10 of Kern...
If you haven't heard yet, Merle Haggard is in a local hospital, recovering from the surgical removal of a cancerous tumor on his lungs.
Today, I've released a sample of the new song, Get Well, Merle Haggard, Get Well, and I've created a forum for all of you Merle Haggard fans to post your get well wishes to one of the world's greatest country music poets of all time, and one we can rightfully call our own. Here's where you can listen to the song, and post comments:

It's hard, but it's getting easier all the time. President-elect Obama. There, I said it! Believe it or not, the candidate I like more won. That's right, I liked Obama more, all along, but voted on principle, rather than personality, so I went with McCain.
Now I've graciously, and humbly accepted my fate as a Republican, who must reside and be happy under the rule of a Democratic president. I've never liked sore losers. I've never...
Nobody tells a story like Merle Haggard. Nobody's lived a story quite like he has. He's one of the most prolific poets and most poignant, if plain-spoken, artists of our time. And he may no longer live here, but he lives in our hearts. He's one of Bakersfield's brightest stars. In Bakersfield, we never abandon our own in time of need.
In case you missed the sad news about Merle's recent hospitalization, and the recent operation to have...
I don't want to be the one going out on a limb, but many of you out there are braver, and bolder than myself. You have a lot to gain if you predict correctly. But if you don't, you run the risk of being branded a fool. So go ahead. Make that prediction, make it right here, right now.
I have a confession to make. I didn't vote for McCain today. I've supported him since my first choice, Huckabee, lost, and continue to support him, but I did not, I repeat, did not vote for McCain today. Continue reading:
I didn't vote for McCain today:
But that's because I mailed in my vote a couple of weeks prior to today's election. And you can be sure that I voted for McCain.
Why? Because best understands how to protect this...

My sympathies towards Barack Obama and his family.
I apologize to my conservative friends. Although I posted this prior to my knowledge about Obama's grandmother, I just don't feel it is appropriate on the day this news was announced.
There are some good comments here, so I won't delete the entire thread.
