When I get back home from Canada, I'm going to begin working on an album of kccountrified korn songs. Of course I'll need to get the heads up (no pun intended) from the boys from Korn and their management. But before that, I'll take suggestions from you for Korn songs to be included on that CD.
This one's going out to those who haven't had a chance to pick up today's paper or read it online. What I predict in California is the reverse of the phenomenon known as the California gold rush.
The gold rush brought us good people, and good music, like the music of Merle Haggard and Buck Owens. But California has squandered it's fortune and burned up it's resources. Now we are sinking into the sea, and the California dream popularized in the 60s classic...
When I hear My City was Gone by the Pretenders, from the vinyl record, Learning to Crawl, it makes me think of what California has become since the days of the gold rush. The powers that be built up California, instead of leaving it alone, and now they are tearing it down. That's why there's great escapist music--like Learning to Crawl.
What Pretenders song works the best in allowing you to escape problems like those California seems to have brought upon itself?
California is in a heap of trouble. Fewer and fewer of us can claim to be shielded or immune from these problems with each day that passes.
If you haven't lost your job, your income is dwindling and your tax burden is not. If you haven't lost your house, you probably know somebody who has. It's not pretty. I was pondering all of these things and feeling a bit overwhelmed, until I dug up an old vinyl...
But the public is fickle. The underdog may be alive today, but I could easily be way down in the polls tomorrow. But you, Bakersfield, should be given the chance to vote for one of your own over a slick, if extraordinarily talented commercialized product of Nashville. You can have your voice right here:
The Bottle's Gettin' Bigger is a brand new single from my forthcoming CD, From Buck Owens Boulevard to Merle Haggard Drive. It's up against a rather...
Perhaps rumors of such rumors have also been exaggerated. The fact is, the contest is very much alive. There is no deadline, and there are no rules. All you need to do is order free mp3 copies of the full-band arrangement of If You Wanna Be the Next Buck Owens and the instrumental only version to get started.
You can be a solo artist, a duo, or a band. You can be from Bakersfield, or, to draw from the title of the radio show, you can be from...
Rebellious, underground Kern County country rockers (I call them Kccrockers) haven't had a voice like this in which to showcase their talent since Cousin Herb's Trading Post television broadcast in the original Bakersfield sound era.
Buck Owens and the Buckaroos, Fatt Katt and the Vonzippers, Alyssa Kaess, Dr. BLT (yes, little old me), Big House, Merle Haggard, Ferlin Husky, to name a few. I say, strike while the iron is hot.
Local artists, bands, duos, send your mp3s to me, Dr...
Nashville or Bakersfield? Brad Paisley or Dr BLT? Today you'll get to excercise your right to free speech, and actually vote.
Things in Nashville today look a lot like they did just before the emergence of the Bakersfield sound back in the late 50s and early 60s. It's all about putting polish before passion.
The first generation of Bakersfield sound raised lots of hell, but they didn't invent rebellion against the establishment. In this free...
it will be time to release the kccrocker tune, The Bottle's Gettin' Bigger.
The release of this song is going to be a big event. Be there for it's release!
Where were you? There was a singles party last night at my underground club, Bakersfield Sound Underground. The single I was trying to set you up with was this one in case you missed it.
This single, a remix called Red, White in Blue, is an original song that I recorded with my band, Practically Poetz and remixed for the troops this year.
Watch the bottle in this photo grow. When it's three times this size, it'll be time for me to release the kccrock (Kern County Country Rock) single, "The Bottle's Gettin' Bigger," about one man's struggle with alcoholism.
If you want to find available singles, midnight Memorial Day is the time to do it. I'll release the single, Red, White and Blue (remix) as a Memorial Day tribute to the troops, and the veterans, living and deceased.
Red, White and Blue (remix) is one of multiple singles that will be released at the underground club known as:

From Psychology Comes Alive
Positive music helps to make the world go round. Positive music has the power to move the soul, to instill hope where hope was once waning, and to give a heretofore discouraged, defeated person the motivation to persevere in the face of ineffably dire, difficult circumstances. The music of the Beatles tends to fall into this category of music, as the following song will depict.
When I Heard you Sing is from my forthcoming CD, The BLT in...
Do you think you must be a full-on American to write and record a passionately delivered, heartfelt, patriotic rock song? Think again. This AmeriCANADIAN Buckanuck is about to show you that it can be done.
I'm going to put the American in AmeriCANADIAN, I'm going to put the Buck in Buckanuck and I'm going to put the rock in kccrock at the strike of midnight on Memorial Day when me and my band, Practically Poetz release the remix of Red, White and Blue, just for you. ...
The old school seems to be gaining momentum as it concerns Obama's decision to release prisoners held at Guantanamo prison. The Old School has a face--that of Dick Cheneys. Yesterday, the Senate voted 90-6 to withold funding for Obama's Gitmo plan. Even members of Obama's own party seemed to be declaring with passion, the old NOT IN MY BACKYARD sentiment that is the Achilles heel of Obama's plan.
Today, two speeches were delivered and a new...
So far, in this newly released poll at topix.net, I'm ahead by a comfortable margain. But the public is fickle, so that could change at any time. I explain the overwhelmingly Dr BLT favorable results as either the case of folks going for the underdog, or the fact that I'm allowed to vote. Perhaps it's a little bit of both.

What was Steven T. Jones referrring to when he came up with this title for the interview he did with me on the corner of 19th and J streets in Sacramento, California? It couldn't have been my race, and it couldn't have been my skills on the guitar. It couldn't have been my theoretical orientation, or the volumes of work I've put out, unless you're talking songs.
But regardless of the degree of verasimilitude, which interviewee in his right mind is going to crucify an...

What the hell does that mean? Am I missing something? Is there something wrong with my brain that all of those years of schooling hasn't been able to repair? These are the very questions that haunt me everytime a classic rock station plays "Sister Christian" by Night Ranger.
Yet, oddly, I find the song hard to get out of my...
This from a new female fan requesting to join my facebook page after hearing the song. I wasn't sure which version of the song she was referring to, but I'm assuming it was the first.

A full-on Bakersfield sound revival may gathering steam like the perfect storm. First, it was KWMR's Bakersfield and Beyond, the biggest radio show featuring Bakersfield sound music since the golden era of the Bakersfield sound.
Then Hank Ray came out with the short horror flick centered on a giant ant invasion used as a metaphor for large record moguls coming in to exploit all vestiges of the Bakersfield sound.
Now, after speaking on the phone to my...
Did any of you ever think, even for a moment that the contest first called Bakersfield's Next Buck, now, simply The "Next Buck Owens" Talent Contest was dead? Think again. Thanks to the support of Bakersfield and Beyond radio station hosts, Mike and Amanda, who aired the song and have been getting behind the contest, any rumors of the death of the contest have quickly been put to rest.
What are the rules, you ask? Did Buck have rules when it...
Homer Joy, who wrote Buck Owen's most memorable hit song, a song that won a grammy when Buck recorded it with Dwight Yoakam, and the man who hit the charts again with the song, John Law, will be a guest on Bakersfield and Beyond tonight at kwmr. It seems to me that we could all stand to get more in touch with that cowboy within these days. Of course diplomatic language and sensitivity to cultural differences is important, but it can be taken too far. How far is too far? I'll let you, the blog visitor, debate that point. In my world of blog n roll, I provide the topic and the tunes, like this one:

You may have heard this song before, but it's never been released on a CD before, that is, until the strike of midnight, 5/13//09, in about 38 minutes from now.
At that hour, go to my official home page:
http://www.drblt.net
Then go to: Songs from the CD, From Buck Owens Blvd. 2 Merle Haggard Drive.
It totally doesn't fit in with the overall musical and lyrical theme of the CD. That's why I added it. I wanted to mix it up a bit with a misfit, just when...
Some things taste better than they look, like the Trout Pizza I saw on the internet today--a picture much too gross to be posted here. Maybe you think country music sounds like this pizza looks, or maybe you feel the same way about punk, and post-punk. Either way, I think you're gonna love Jerry's Trout Pizza.
Do you like to listen to honky-tonk heroes of country music from the Bakersfield sound era, and to you like hang out at Trout's, or at the Crystal...
Because of all of the demands and protests about my reluctance to release the song, Kick-ass Country, you've caused me to release it prematurely, before the public was ready to receive it.
There I go, daydreaming again. To be perfectly honest, there were no such demands made by fans, at least none to my knowledge. But in dreams, anything is possible, and the song I've dreamed up is now available to sample at:

If you've been listening to my input on KWMR's Bakersfield and Beyond radio show, you'll know where my biases lie. I believe in being true to our musical roots, to our own musical communities and supporting our own native sons.
If you were asked to pick one of these, which Hank would you pick as your favorite? I'm torn between Hank Snow, one of Canada's native sons, and Hank Ray, one of Bakersfield's native sons who has yet to reach the apex of his musical career. The...
Have you had your corporate cup of coffee today? Mine was lukewarm, and the cheese danish I ordered had dried up cream cheese and both ends, but no cream cheeze inside. Where was I, you ask? Starbucks, where else? Almost all Starbucks look the same, they all have that corporate in-and-out modern, vacuous look. No character.
They used to serve a pretty good maple oat nut scone, but now these scones taste like a cross between cardboard, and pop...

When a shrink tackles something like 19th Nervous Breakdown, it's either going to be a complete train wreck, or an unstoppable speed rail locomotion. I'll let you be the judge of which one this is. Rules were meant to be broken. I call the style on this one "hip rock," Genre-busting. It's what I do.

When examining the history of any individual, or family for that matter, there are often key, dramatic and/or traumatic events that serve as pivotal points in that person, or in that family's history. One such event, for the Haggard family was the incident in which their barn was burned down, apparently by a man offended that Merle father didn't offer him the royal treatment...
