Yes, you might understand why this bit of news is real "thriller" for me.
http://mashable.com/2009/06...
I have to double check, but I think the total plays for this song even exceeds the number of plays for the sample of my own original Dr BLT:
Good-bye Michael Jackson (Bittersweet Legacy)

Sky Saxon passing won't be lost in the shadow of Michael Jackson's tragic death, at least not at:
Bakersfield Sound Underground

He is saluted there, at BSU with a few words and a brand new song written as a tribute to him for the widow he left behind, a friend of mine, and for the fans, family and friends of Sky Saxon. Let it be the Sky Saxon shrine where you deposit your prayers, comments, recollections etc. for this dear creative...

For a long time I felt like a lone traveler, hacking away at the bushes as I tried to clear a path from the Bakersfield sound of yore to new generations of Bakersfield sound, established upon that foundation, but in search of new ways and new creative avenues of expression.
Then came KWMR's bi-weekly broadcast, Bakersfield and Beyond. As a regular guest whose music has also been openly embraced and aired, I have witnessed how...
John Ritter's death received 15 minutes of fame. His death was overshadowed by that of none other than The Man in Black. Johnny Cash passed away the following day. Who could possibly compete with that?
Recently, Ed McMahon's death was eclipsed by that of Farrah Fawcett. Then their deaths were both trumped by the King of Pop. My good friend Walter also pointed out these: Jackie Gleason died 6/22/87, two days after Fred Astaire.
Do you have a...
Should I be celebrating his legacy, and mourning his death, or celebrating that he is not around to hurt any more children, while mourning the loss of innocence he brought to children if he broke the law and "beat it" (the system, that is)? If I'm not too ambivalent to record it, (given the bittersweet nature of Jackson's legacy), it will be posted at:

Here are the lyrics:
Bittersweet Legacy
words and music by Dr BLT copyright 2009...
The tragic fate of Farrah Fawcett, who died earlier today, will be overshadowed in the wake of the news that Michael Jackson died of an apparent heart attack. Share your memories, thoughts and reflections on the deaths of either or both of these two celebrities.
We all know that Michael's life took a turn for the worse at some point, and he lost much of the respect he gained in the process. One of his big hits was "Beat it!" but whether he beat the...

I discovered this on the front page of today's paper, but I couldn't find the link. A slightly different acount of the story of Arnold getting in a bit of hot water with folks in Fresno over valley water issues is offered here:

In a sense, I don't blame the angry questioner for his sentiment, after all, I am in the process of recording an original kccrocker (Kern County country rock) song called It's Hot as Hell in...
Be the first to answer this correctly, and win a free, autographed copy of my forthcoming CD, From Buck Owens Blvd. to Merle Haggard Drive (must be at the CD release party to collect prize; details to be announced at BSU).
What was the name of the group that played at the Blackboard in Bakersfield in the 1950s that featured young Buck Owens on guitar?
a. Buck Owens and the Blackboard Playboys
b. Merle Haggard and the Blackboard Pinups
c. Bill Woods and his...
The date was 02/12/08. It was Merle Haggard Day, the day of a visit by Merle to a street-naming ceremony marking the naming of Merle Haggard Drive. That brings me to this question:
True or False?
A local singer/songwriter who attended the ceremony had his pen stolen by Merle Haggard. He would later return home to "pen" a song with a broken pencil called, "The Day Merle Haggard Stole My Pen."
If you're the first one to correctly answer the question, you...
Hello Bakersfield sound fans, nu bako sound junkies and kccrocker (Kern County country rocker) fans!
He played drums in an all-star line up that included Buddy Owens in a tribute to Buck Owens at the CMA Awards in 2006. He's the former drummer for Blink-182, and has also been involved in myriad side projects.
He and a young man he was touring with at the time who goes by DJ A.M. were severely burned in a plane crash in late September,...

Well, perhaps the talk of rumors is slightly exaggerated. Well, maybe there are no such rumors, but at the very least, there are rumors of the existence of such rumors. I may be the source of those rumors of rumors. Hick-hop hype? Well, knowing myself the way I do, I wouldn't put it past me to stoop to such a low, such a woefully cheap publicity stunt. This story is coming to you compliments of Bakersfield Sound Underground. You will find...

It was an anniversary to remember, the 1st anniversary of Darkstar Records on Truxton Avenue in Bakersfield, California. It was quite the historic event. If you missed it, you can read what you missed, and weep, or if you were there, you can relive every breath-taking moment, all at:

This just in from Bakersfield Sound Underground: For obvious reasons, certain key details concerning the whereabouts and time of the recording of the Kern County kountry rock (k.c,c.rock) kover of Korn's Freak on a Leash are being witheld from the public, and from the press.
This much is known however, Dr. BLT will collaborate with other local kccrockers to put this kover tune together, along with scores of others for the forthcoming CD, Korn Kountry.

They've sure been lining up some interesting interviews on Bakersfield and Beyond lately. Tonight, it's Dave Alvin, who will be appearing at Fishlips in Bakersfield on August 7. Local artists like The Witchitas and possibly The Councilmen continue to join me, other nu bako/kccorck artists, as well as a few of the old faithful like Buck Owens and Merle Haggard on the playlist.

I grew up on the prairies of Saskatchewan, the set for this show. For Canadians, and for local Buckanucks (Bakersfield-residing Canadian Buck Owens fans) this will be a bittersweet farewell. After watching the show on video, I've come to the conclusion that the director was influenced by the 60s comedy TV show starring Buck Owens, Roy Clark, and others, known as Hee Haw.

The day the music died. It has not yet arrived in schools, but music education itself, a foundation of learning, certainly appears to be waiting on death row for the day it will be executed.
Pathagorus had a keen understanding of how profoundly important music was to the understanding of the universe. The powers that be in government and education are of another ilk than Pathagorus. They always seem to assume that music has little or no value compared to subjects like math...
Legendary American icon, Johnny Cash suffered from it, legendary filmaker Alan Berliner still suffers from it. I call it creative-job-related insomnia.
