Boy, the word desolate comes to mind. Was the road in pretty good shape, no big pot holes that you could lose a large dog in?

Its weird Dusty,, that particular section there are potholes you could lose a couple of large dogs in.  Then there are sections that have been newly repaved and their is some activity to restore some of the roadside business.  California is way behind on the Route 66 preservation project.  Once you cross into Arizona things are vastly improved.

This is probably more information then you want to know but I have become enthralled with the writings of Glen Heggstad, Dave Barr and Neil Peart and am planning an around the world ride in a couple of years.  So I am seeking out the hardest adventures I can find to get perpared for that..

If you have any interest in Around The World motocycle travel...the main source of information is

www.horizonsunlimited.com

That may or may not be of interest to you...but just thought I'd throw it out there.

I have traveled the AZ part of Rt. 66, and I remember as a child my dad would take Rt.66 on our family cross country trips. I used to be very fond of motorcycles, but with my trashed back I can no longer ride one :( I love bikes and have taken some nice road trips on them in my youth.

Thanks for that link :)
