It's now 4:38 am on Sun, May 4,2008. Another sleepless night due to loud, obnoxious neighbors, and as usual the BPD, won’t do a thing. I live in a southwest neighborhood and have the misfortune of living next to very inconsiderate neighbors who sit outside and party every weekend and many a week night. The more they drink the louder they get; screaming, yelling, laughing, and smoking. The owners (adults, but aparently not mature ones) are parents with minor children. I can't sleep because of the noise and I can't have my windows open because of the noise and cigarette smoke. I have called the Bakersfield Police Department at least 10 times in the past 6 months and they have never responded. If they do respond it is hours after the call and after the party is over. I thought our police department was supposed to serve and protect, but they never show up. I would like to know who they serve and protect or do they protect anybody? My neighbors are clearly drunk and disorderly, a public nuisance and guilty of disorderly conduct. My right to sleep, during normal sleeping hours, seems like a basic civil right that is being violated continually, and the police could care less. It seems that a police department that won't respond to valid citizen complaints is guilty of misconduct. It’s now 4:52 am and the loudmouths are still going strong and seem to have moved to the front yard. I placed the call 2 1/2 hours ago and there has still been no response. What a surprise? In my opinion, our police department is worthless and seems to have forgotten who they should serve and protect. Remember the term "Peace Officer"?
