As of yesterday, there is a new 4-way stop sign at (of all intersections) Merle Haggard Dr and Saco Rd/Quinn Rd/Northbound 99 off-ramp.  I understand there is construction here (bridge project) and that there's been some accidents there, but, c'mon, the road department thinks a 4-way stop sign is needed there!?!?!?!  NO!!!  This stop sign is already causing gridlock, backing traffic up almost all the way to Hwy 65 at 4pm today!  Who in the...

As you may know, a couple of years ago, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) decided to take baseball and softball out of the Olympics.  What do you think of this decision?  What other sports should be taken out of the Olympics, if any?  What sports should be added to the Olympics? I think baseball and softball should be in the Olympics.  I hate to see any sport be taken out of the Olympics, but if I think any should go, it should be maybe the...

Over the past 3 years, IndyCar driver Danica Patrick has gained a lot of attention, especially after the 2005 Indy 500, where she became the first woman to ever lead a lap in the race's illustrious history before finishing 4th.  She has continued to attract attention to the IndyCar Series thanks in part to her competitive and aggressive nature, which has caused her to get into (or at least want to get into) a few slight confrontations with other drivers.  Last...

How many of you are tired of all the litter that lines our streets?  I know I am.  I don't like seeing all the trash just piled up everywhere, where it is not supposed to be.  I'm talking about littering and dumping.  Both of these practices are illegal, but still happen way too much. Littering and dumping are illegal and rude practices.  When you dump trash on someone else's property or on the side of the road, you are being inconsiderate and disrespectful to...

Earlier today I turned my TV to MTV and saw a couple of episodes of "My Super Sweet 16."  Well actually it was a special of that series where they counted down the most expensive, "blingest" episodes.  On these episodes, they showed on the screen the cost for everything at the party (dancers, celebrity singers, gowns, etc) as well as the party's total cost.  I only saw the #8, #7, and #6 episodes.  Well anyway, seeing those episodes brought...

Here's a fun little topic.  What are your favorite TV shows of all time?  My favorites are listed below in no particular order.  Which shows do you not like? 1.  7th Heaven (which aired on the WB-now CW-until its finale last year.  Too bad I missed the final season thanks to Directv not offering the Bakersfield CW.  UGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!).  Just a great family drama. 2.  Cops (Tru Tv-formerly Courttv-& Fox 58).  "Bad boys bad boys, whatcha...

I live in Northwest Bakersfield and have always wondered why there aren't any recycling centers (especially on the west side of Bakersfield) that accept recyclable items such as #3,4,5,6, or 7 plastic?  These plastics are used for many things from grocery bags to the bags The Californian uses to put its newspapers in for those like me who subscribe to it to those plastic covers and baggies used to ship electronic items (such as power cords, adapters, portable CD players, CDs,...

How many of you can agree with me that Bakersfield needs more bike-friendly roads?  I think so because there aren't enough of them.  Too many of our roads are too narrow or too rough.  And some drivers are way too inconsiderate to share the road with bicyclists.  I also think the city needs to build more bike paths that branch off the one bike path we have.  And wider bike lanes should be considered, too.  What do you think?  Let me know by posting...

Well here it is, finally, the last part of my series on my recent vacation to Long Beach for the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach.  There will be some photos posted in the coming months (I have a slow dial-up connection so not all of them will be uploaded right away and I'm not sure exactly where I'll put them on here (on my profile or in a blogpost, but either way I'll mention where I put them up-it probably will be in a blogpost or series of blogposts). Well, anyway, I woke up in...

Saturday morning I woke up fairly early (can't remember exactly what time).  It was April 19, my 25th birthday.  After taking a shower, it was time to eat breakfast in the hotel lobby.  Having learned how expensive food was at the track, I ate literally until I was totally stuffed.  While eating, I talked to a fellow race fan and his family (whom I'd also talked to on Friday morning during breakfast in the lobby).  My mom and dad didn't eat at the same time...
