casooner90 - > My view -> Tank 05 needs fog driving lesson
Tank 05 needs fog driving lesson

You're not the first person to do this, but you're license plate displayed your carelessness towards others.  A total disregard for others.

The drive out on Enos lane this morning (5:15 AM) was particularly dangersous with very dense fog.  I drove as fast  and safe as I could (50 mph) given this condition.  However, that wasn't fast enough for you so you rode my bumper for a long distance.  Then you had the nerve to endanger my life by passing me.  I calculated that you had less than 5 seconds from the time an oncoming headlight appeared out of the fog to the time it was next to me.  You took that gamble and passed me.  I am certain that you would have had no hard feeling of pushing me off of the road if an oncoming headlight appeared.

Like I said, you're not the first and probably won't be the last.  Heck, I've even had idiots pass me on the right shoulder (I really wished they'd smack a telephone poll).  I just hope that you get some brain before you KILL somone on the road.  If you're in a hurry, try waking up earlier.  The lesson here is slow down and increase following distance, not the other way.

I don't quite understand what gets in to people. I know that no job is worth endangering someone else's life. This morning, I was coming out Rosedale highway, about the same time you were on the road. I had a tanker to my right and a vehicle in front of me. This clown in a Honda thought that if he/she rode my butt, I'd drive over the top of someone to let them go their merry way.  At one point, they were so close, I couldn't even see their headlights. Stupidity abounds!!!!! I'm happy you made it safely. I hope others on the road with Tank 05 were as lucky.

Too bad you didnt get the license number.. Im sure their employer would love to hear your story

Oh, and then you just have to love the people you see without their headlights on. Coming home from work the last few days has been challenging to say the least... I drive from Belridge (5:30 to 6:00am departure) south on 33... east on Lowkern... east on 58... south on I-5 and east on Panama Lane... opposing the "going to work" traffic... I can not tell you how many times I have been ran off the road from someone trying to pass someone in the opposing lane... fog or no fog.

Tank 05 (of a white chevy truck) is the license plate number.

CHP made a big deal last year about patrolling the Hwy 119 more due to rash of accidents over last couple of years.  Where are they during the morning commute?  They need to be out there on these roads and haul these idiots directly to a detention center.  I know if they ever pull into my work area, they will no longer have a job.  Anyone taking that type of risk in their personal lives are soon to hurt someone else through their short cut mentality.

Not related, but still dealing with traffic;

Of course, my pet peeves around driving are;

1.  Left lane hogs (including those in HOV lanes driving slow).

2.  Shopping carts left in parking areas.

3.  Trucks taking up two spaces (or parking crooked)

4.   Tail gaters.

5.  Driving slow because they've got a cell phone stuck in their ear.

I'm not a fast driver, but hate those that impedes other's progress.

I've been wondering about those drivers who fail to turn on their headlights while driving in the dense fog.  We encountered maybe a dozen this am during our commute.   Are these drivers relying on automatic headlights that only turn on in true darkness or are they afraid to turn on their headlights because they might forget to turn them off?  The cars I drive turn off the headlights when the car is turned off so I never worry about running down my battery.   Another thing drivers need to consider when driving in heavy fog is that the school buses are out and about at a different time than usual. We watched in amazement as six cars passed a loading school bus on Auburn this am.  Come on you guys wake up and pay attention.  The foggy conditions require extra alertness.  That school bus had red flashing lights and its stop sign deployed.  I stopped for it and then hoped that the drivers behind me were paying attention.

Ah, another one of my pet peeves.  I drive 25 mph on Rosedale Hwy in front of RMS when the lights are blinking.  This is a dangerous move on my part as most idiots like to drive over 50 mph and sees me as a mere obstacle to slalom their way through.  Some even have the audacity to tail gate and honk their horns like they don't see the blinking lights.  I can't understand for the life of me why BPD or CHP won't get out there and catch these idiots.   There's an opportunity to generate some revenue for the city.

When I was attending college as a commuter student my daily trek took me through many school zones.   I was appalled at the lack of consideration on the part of some other drivers.  I was especially ticked at the school bus drivers who failed to obey these school zones' lower speed limits.   I would rear view mirror watch them fly up behind me and then watch them slow way down to the legal limit to keep from hitting my car.  Honk all you want to "Buddy"  I refuse to let you intimidate me into breaking any traffic laws.

Technically by CA law, the school zone speed limit only applies when children are near the road without any sort of barrier (such as a fence) between them and the road. If all the children are inside the building or if they are playing in a fenced in yard, then you do not have to slow to 25mph since there is little risk of a child darting into the road.

That's correct for California.  I was in Texas where a range of time was posted on the school zone signs.  Then if there was no summer school the signs were removed for a few months and then replaced in the fall. I was driving in the school zones in the am during the posted time range and there would be school children walking on the sidewalks.  I was on the way to morning classes at college.   I remember thinking if the school bus drivers won't even follow the speed limit rules there is a problem here.  This was in the late 70s.    spame code hhrvk

When the lights are flashing (School children crossing sign), you MUST slow down to 25 mph.  So many of Bako residents ignore this and speed right on through, even when there are childre in the area.  It's like they can't read.

The law says nothing about  flashing lights. That's just something that particular school added for their zone. The law just says the distance which the limit can apply and that it is during school hours when children are coming and going, when children are at lunch and when children are at play, except when the children are seperated from the road by a barrier: dmv.ca.gov/pubs/vctop/d11/vc22358_4.htm

One could make the assumption that the school only turns on the flashing lights when children are expected (e.g. before and after school). But there's nothing in the law about a flashing school zone sign. The law does say you have to stop for flashing reds on a school bus, but that's about it. However, if you're driving dangerously, a cop could still pull you over and issue a ticket for that, even if you can't be ticketed for speeding in a school zone because no children are present.

sioux, you must be joking, right?  I mean, you actually think this is funny to speed on through the very streets where our children are walking?  Think about your idiotic statement - read the stupidity you just typed.  If you think speeding through the school zone is funny, you are a total moron without any disregards for a child.
