PLEASE READ THIS! It could save your pet's life!
This is from the Consumer Affairs Website. To read the full articles and all the complaints please use the link at the bottom! This is not just about DOG food it is CAT food as well, and the problem is nationwide! Shellee of Evansville, MN September 22, 2009 I purchased a bag of beneful dog food. Just a couple of days later found airtight container to be covered inside and out with millions of what I learned are grain mites. My dog was experiencing severe itching and hair loss due to scratching as well as an awful odor. Ginger of Glendale, AZ September 16, 2009 Tonight we purchased our first bag of Purina One. We were horrified to open the bag and find tons of live and dead bugs. I was hoping it was just an isolated incident, but after looking around it appears they have a real problem on their hands! Thank God I didn't feed the food to my dogs, like so many others have, which would have made them very ill. Sara of austell, GA September 7, 2009 About two months ago I switched from Purina One to Purina Nature's Recipe. After about three days one of my dogs became very ill, with bloody diahrea and vomiting. It took a week of feeding him home cooked chicken, rice etc before he recovered. Shortly after that the other two dogs became sick with the same symptoms and I likewise cooked homemade food for a week until their symptoms lessened. I had a feeling it was the dog food and I quit giving them the Nature's Recipe and have not had a problem since. Christian of West Palm Beach, FL August 1, 2009 We have purchased a brand new bag of Purina One (PurinaOne) Urinary Tract Health Formula for Cats. Upon Feeding this to our cats and them not wanting to eat. We noticed that there are thousands of live insect larvea and cocoon inside of the bag, jumping all around. This is a very dangerous product as we have heard that other cats have died from this. We have staged a complaint with Purina, very doubt it will go far. We are now returning the food to the store that we purchased it and will never buy that brand again. Our cats have been very sick for days. 5 comments from 4 users

have you seen the new commercial by the humane society trying to get in everyones pockets again?? it tears your heart out but thats what its intended to do..if they and PETA werent proven to be money hungry frauds Id almost be tempted to send my $19.95 a month to them..I sure hope people do some research before they fall for this.. same thing with the christian childrens fund..we went that route for two solid years..letters came from supposedly the same 10 year old boy but the hand writting changed everytime he sent a letter down to dotting the i's and no signature..we also wanted to send christmas gifts and birthday gifts and they told us to just send money instead..they wouldnt give us a real address for the child and he was a sioux indian boy in south dakota..we got one picture at the beginning..no updates when we asked..i feel these orgs need to be investigated and disbanded if they fail to live up to what they advertise..what your donating too is some ones paycheck and office supplys..maybe a box of rice..the individual thing is bogus in my opinion.. sorry for going off topic but hat humane society commercial just set me off.. posted by

sioux: When I see that commercial, I switch channels almost faster than I do when I see you-know-who. I cannot STAND that commercial. It is suffocatingly pleading. I just wonder how far they had to go to do that commercial. It makes me SICK. I wouldn't send those people a dime. If the commercial were a normal one, I might be tempted to send a donation now and then, but not when they put on commercials like that. It's interesting that you think more or less the same way. Those people are phoneys. catgirl: I'm sorry too for going off-topic. I don't know what my daughter feeds her animals (four dogs, one cat), but I'm going to let her know about this. I know she cooks at lot of their food herself. Not all of it, but some. posted by

ya i notice it everyday Alicen *grin* as far as the warning for the food we always appreciate that..it changes so often and can be so devastating to get into a bad batch of food when your trusting the well known companys to be responsible..we had a bad batch last year and it reeked havoc with us and our friends..it was puppy food from walmart.. posted by

It's hard to point fingers at a specific company when it comes to bug infestations. Most pet food still comes in wax lined paper bags which means they can get infested anywhere from the factory to the store shelf. A proper investigation should see if these bags share a distribution point and if other brands of food from that distribution point also have bug infestations. This would determine if the problem lays with Purina or if it's a wider ranging problem with a distribution point. Edit: I feel the need to come back and point out that I actually would never feed my cats Purina. Their food has way too many fillers and by-products for my liking. I purchase a brand from the natural/organic aisle of Petco. I've not had to clean up cat vomit all summer, not even fur balls.... with as many cats as I have, that's telling you something about how far good food can go towards good health. And any time I've emailed their customer service group, I get a response by the next day. posted by
