WHAT'S T. BOONE UP TO?
I saw a paid ad on the local tube featuring T. Boone reciting some sobering and scary figures related to our dependence of foreign oil. But--praise the Lord--T. Boone has a plan that will save us. I keyed pickensplan on my search and went to the web site that explains it all in detail. 80 year old T. Boone is building a huge wind energy farm. It represents an investment of billions and will make a projected profit of 10 to 15%. Good for him; I hope he has gone one better and figured out a way to take it with him. My question is why does T. Boone need popular support for a business venture? Why can't he simply wind-generate the juice and sell it? Is T. Boone preaching hype for Mesa Energy or practical solutions for the energy crisis? He did warn that we are not "going to drill our way out" of this crisis. That, I'm afraid, is not hype. 9 comments from 7 users

No we aren't. It is going to take a concerted effort including all the "renewables" (wind, solar, etc.) plus new technologies ( www.LS9.com ) and nuclear with 90% reprocessing techniques ala France...... But the solution needs to start with drilling OCS, ANWR, etc. and getting serious about shale, tar sands, etc..... Even enhanced recovery techniques in Bakken Field, etc. T. Boone has always been a bit of a showman. Of course he realizes that his saying things like "we can't drill our way out of this" especially coming from an "oilman" will get people's attention. I know one thing though -- Obama's Plan (do nothing -- just talk about alternatives) will not solve our energy problems. And WPT and other forms of taxation will only make it worse. Unfortunately we will all get a chance to see Obama's "plan" fail..................... posted by

We *AIN'T* gonna drill our way out of the crisis. And we've seen in Iraq we're not going to invade our way out of it either.

Katie Curic interviewed Pickens a few nights ago on CBS news. They discussed his Wind Farm and the fact that he felt Bush had gone the wrong direction in pursuing Ethanol. He said he felt Natural Gas was the way to go and voiced that to Bush. He said he seemed interested at the time, but hasn't followed through. He stated statistics which I can't recall regarding our dependency on foreign oil from the 1970's to the present. It's something like we've gone from importing 24% of our oil to 74%. He also said he felt neither presidential candidate was focused enough on the fuel crisis. He refuses to endorse either candidate, but said he'll vote for Mc Cain. posted by

I remember the giant wind farms in Wyoming. Most of Wyoming is windy all the time. A giant state with only 400,000 people or so. They could cover half the state in wind farms and 90% of the people wouldn't be able to see them in the course of their daily lives. posted by

Pickens has a plan, true, but it's seriously flawed. But at least he's put it out there in the open and he hopes to benefit from it financially. Hopefully we won't be dumb enough to go along with much of it. posted by

By using windfarms, solar, wave action along w/ improved energy efficent equipment, please working w/ the public to conserve and only consume the resources they need would be a great start. Work w/ the US major automakers to produce flex fuel and work w/ gas companies to produce flex fuel. Look at Brazil which produce almost all their own energy needs and use surgary cane. posted by
