learnem's got a point - the company has completely tailored their marketing in the past decade towards the "urban" crowd. posted by

Yeah they even give a scholarship every week on the Tom Joyner in the Morning radio show to people attending Historically Black Colleges and Universities. Basically, the slogan is suggesting that Black history shouldn't be a month but everyday of the year. They've had that for quite some time now. posted by

The fact that this was clearly a race-baiting call out is something I will overlook in my comments. First, McDonald's food is so scary gross that I have to question the judgment of people who eat there. I occasionally stop for an order of fries out of sheer desperation if I'm driving around with little time and I always feel like I need a shower afterwards. Yuck. As far as promoting black culture, I am with witbee and see no problem. In fact, I think it's a good thing (assuming that's what witbee meant). Without going into a big o' long winded dissertation on this topic, I will only offer that my experiences in the South, particularly Atlanta, showed this Bako gal that black families in large numbers DO exist. My first rides on MARTA and walks around Atlanta really surprised me ... it was like nothing I had ever seen. Middle to upper middle class black families, and a whole lot of them. This was way back in the 90s. I have always wondered why we don't see such families in California. If McDonald's can promote strong work ethics and encourage fathers to stay with their kids, I'm all for it. But I still think they peddle a disgusting product. posted by

Vanity, perhaps McDonald's is taking a page or two from the Democratic Party's playbook, for the latter also peddles a disgusting product. Kevin Jackson, author of the recently released book "The BIG Black Lie: How I Learned the Truth About the Democrat Party," probably would agree: http://theblacksphere.blogs... Right, Vanity. I don't see a problem catering your product to a particular segment of the population. Have you ever seen the Verizon commercials on Telemundo? posted by

Come on, guys. All advertising - and, trust me, the Web site in question IS advertising - is geared to one group or another. Could be wealthy people, could be a particular ethnic group, could be a particular age group. I haven't eaten McDonald's food since I was a teenager (long time ago!) and I don't relate to their advertising. But that's OK. There are plenty of products and plenty of advertising geared toward me and everyone else on this blog. Let's get over ourselves. posted by

I should point out that if McDonalds was targeting blacks with a new "fried chicken with a side of watermelon and a 40 of Colt 45 for a drink" value menu, I would see some racism there. posted by

Many companies now have branches of their websites devoted to young people, or women. It's just advertising. I doubt that a bunch of racists are sitting around running McDonalds. posted by

sounds like a future lawsuit loophole waiting to happen, if indeed the target audience all become huge, fat, and unhealthy ~ if they can claim and prove they were targeted and 'forced' to supersize ... then they'll become the latest millionaires thanks to Mickey-Dee posted by

Chicken, what about the website do you find "racist"? It looks like another way for McD's to target the Black market. You should be more upset with the f*****g commercials by McD's. Have you ever noticed that virtually all of the commericals featuring Blacks have inner city settings? Have you ever noticed that virtually all of the commercials featuring Blacks are single parent familes? Have you ever noticed that virtually all of the commercial with Blacks and Whites in them, that the Blacks and Whites never interact? Have you ever noticed that virtually of the commercials featuring Blacks use rap music and f*****g slang...almost ebonics! I stopped spending money at McD's years ago and I'm Lovin It! posted by

I can think of other reasons other than their commercials not to eat McDonalds. After reading Fast Food Nation, I took a fast food moratorium (but I still eat MREs, go figure). posted by

I take Vanityfair's approach to McDonalds... it's a place of last resort for food. And it's not because of the calories or fat or anything other than the fact that their food is so "blah". posted by

I'm sorry but I have to agree with pp2, i would have to call it target advertising as well, i don't see how could it be racism. posted by
