If the world were a village

There are currently more than six billion people on the planet! This enormous number can be difficult to grasp, especially for a child. But what if we imagine the whole world as a village of just 100 people? In this village

  • 22 people speak a Chinese dialect
  • 20 earn less than a dollar a day
  • 32 are of Christian faith
  • 17 cannot read or write
  • 39 are under 19 years old

There are currently more than six billion people on the planet!

Half of them live in a two-bedroom house in Delano.

And how many people in this village would be murdering their neighbors for religious reasons? How many would be starving because of famine? How many would be leaving their own home to sneak into their neighbor's home and take up residence? How many would be making babies they can't take care of?

Doesn't sound like a village I want to live in.

Out of the 100, 99 hated George Bush with one undecided. The undecided voter has since went in for psychiatric observation.

That's right another Bush bashing.....it's my job!!! LOL

Except for the 22 that speak Chinese, the global village sounds like Oildale.

The world is filled with poor, christian chinese youths who can't read.
