It takes real dedication to avoid it. The way to proceed, I believe, is to avoid the desire to be humorous or cute in the midst of a serious political discussion. Avoid negative mental habits, fear or hate mongering and demonizing the opposition. Remember the truth in physics is simple; in politics it's complicated. If you can't name your views, the opposition's views and a third view, then you don't adequately understand the topic. The posts here will, at times, be lengthy but I will also support them with ample references, usually in the form of links, so that the reader will be left with more than just my position on a topic, but hopefully some information beyond that.

Tax Breaks Draw Republicans into Hypocrisy
It seems like Senators are finally ready to sign a trimmed-down stimulus package, after the much feared Rahm Emanuel helped sculpt out a bipartisan deal. The reason for Emanuel's input? The Administration was afraid the Senate Democrats were giving in too much and the bill was ready for an agreement. They have now trimmed it down to $780 billion. Notice that this is Democrats being bipartisan, listening to the loyal opposition, accomodating... But wait, it's not all over. Republicans have also announced that while they like the current bill, they are looking at adding in tax breaks for the auto and housing companies that would total $40 billion, bringing the new (not so) low total to $820 billion - the original size so criticized earlier in the week by Republican leaders. Check the story in the Wall Street Journal: http://online.wsj.com/artic... One really has to wonder: while lower taxes might be kind of cool, this absolutist aversion to them causes the Republicans to behave like junkies: ready to steal from their families, lie to anyone, do anything. I beginning to believe ever more firmly in some political outreach. It all begins with cutting off support for the habit, so Republicans: I think we'll have to take away all your tax breaks (at least any new ones) from here out. It will be hard, but you will see, in the end, that you will be happier. Now it's up to you: are you ready to face your future? 1 comments from 1 users
