The Truth is Complicated

Sloganeering, platitiudes, 'gotcha' politicking - everyone recognizes it and everyone complains about it when it's aimed at them. It takes real dedication to avoid it. The way to proceed, I believe, is to avoid the desire to be humorous or cute in the midst of a serious political discussion. Avoid negative mental habits, fear or hate mongering and demonizing the opposition. Remember the truth in physics is simple; in politics it's complicated. If you can't name your views, the opposition's views and a third view, then you don't adequately understand the topic. The posts here will, at times, be lengthy but I will also support them with ample references, usually in the form of links, so that the reader will be left with more than just my position on a topic, but hopefully some information beyond that.

Seems interesting but I only see those dreaded red X's in the boxes in the corner.  Is it my computer?

Okay, I've had this trouble before. HELP!!

I messaged Jason about this.

I"m using a Mac. How come I have such difficulty getting images into a posting?

Dirtyshirt, I emailed you back, did you get it?  In order to use the rich text editor's image inserter tool (the mountain icon), you have to have your images hosted somewhere on the web and have URLs to insert to pull from.  Now, different things can cause images not to surface (and on [edited to read:] Firefox 3 on a Mac, I don't even see those red X boxes here)--your source could have embedded code to prevent someone from pulling bandwith from them in this way, or some other problem with the hosting of the image (for example, images from emails often expire).

Ahh, another bait blog. Lovely.

Happy to see you're feeling better, dirtyshirt!

posted by dirtyshirt on Mar 27, 2009 at 05:17 PM

vanityfair: another response from left field!

glad to be back!!

You feel baited by a little reminder that the teleprompter is universal in today's Wasington? Well, okay. One might even claim that I could have seen that coming, as you seem baitable by almost anything. At least anything I post.

So, since I decided to post, obviously you feel baited.

I'm sorry.

posted by vanityfair on Mar 27, 2009 at 05:21 PM

Hey, dirtyshirt, I don't have a horse in this race ... I have never cared one iota about anyone's use of a teleprompter and my comments on these blogs reflect that. That you would target Republicans and be so sassy about it ... yeah, I'd call that a tasty little morsel for a conservative or two.

No need for apologies. I'm honored to not see the "thread locked" message at the end of your blog ;)

Edit: I have to rescind my comment about Obama's teleprompter. I do recall making one comment that I thought it would be funny if it failed, but that was a long time ago. My bad.

posted by witterpitters on Mar 27, 2009 at 05:41 PM

Vanity: DS is always "sassy" especially when he is feeling better!!!  He 'targets' the GOP because he is an arse! You know the symbol for Dems.!!!!!!

Sorry DS but you walked right into that brick wall!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

OMG....................was I just baited????!!!! damn I hate when that happens.

posted by dirtyshirt on Mar 27, 2009 at 05:55 PM

What thread locked message?

It's after five, witters, so your posts all make it through a 'wall' of salt grains!

posted by vanityfair on Mar 27, 2009 at 06:02 PM

As far as I know, when a user is blocked from another's blog the comment box is absent and the message "thread locked" appears in its place. At least, that's how it used to be. I have only been blocked from one blog (ConservativeCowgirl33) and that was the case back then. Read more about the subject, if you like.

Wow, somebody out there uses IE on their Mac? Why in the world would you do such a thing? That would be like telling your ISP to slow down your transfer rate just... you know...just cuz.

Even windows users should be using Safari. It's way freakin faster. Did I mention that it's free?

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Mar 27, 2009 at 06:29 PM

Hey, isn't the guy in the last picture the one that told a crowd of conservative republicans that he was horny?

Yeah, that's the guy.

Joe the plumber tells crowd he's horny

PP: using Safari.

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Mar 27, 2009 at 06:50 PM

I actually go back and forth between Safari and Firefox. If you have a quartz enabled videocard, the latest version of Safari is pretty cool. I have an older mac at home, so I can't reallly take advantage of the bitchin new features, so it's mostly firefox here. I'm certainly not complaining. It's not like I have to worry about viruses or anything.

I have no clue what you're talking about.  Computer illiterate here.

posted by witterpitters on Mar 27, 2009 at 07:21 PM

That makes two of us Nancy !

posted by dirtyshirt on Mar 27, 2009 at 08:14 PM

I've got Firefox onboard, but use it only when I really need functionality not on Safari. Firefox will usually have the add-ons that will do the trick, but I dislike the continual updating.

Hey - I worked long and hard on these photos!

Will somebody please tell me what a wonderful experience they were? How ingenious? How they lol'ed and lol'ed?

Pretty please?

posted by witterpitters on Mar 27, 2009 at 08:30 PM

OK.............fine..................just like a man, gotta humor him!! Especially when they beg!

Great experience DS *snort* - Very ingenious DS *snark* - and yes, very very LOL!!!! *sheesh*

Guys put one dish in the dishwasher and we ladies are supposed to act liked they spent the whole day with their hands in the soap!!!! Lord!

Soooooooooooo, how ya doin' today DS?????  I do see your funny bone is back :-)

You know, there are various ways of measuring recovery and several of them are kind of gross, so let me just say that indications are good and leave it at that.

I have gone for 6-7 hours without pain relievers several times in as many days. Didn't mean to, I just slept through the appointed hour.

I was able to walk today without dragging one leg behind me like Quasimodo - for a while.

I was able to pick up my baby boy and I played (wrestled) with him for a little while today.

All in all, a very good day. Thanks for asking.

posted by sagefever on Mar 27, 2009 at 08:57 PM

I just may have to give safari a try~ updates are constant with Firefox, but i love the add ons.

posted by ProgressivePete2 on Mar 27, 2009 at 09:04 PM

That's rough dirtyshirt. Glad you had a good day.

The last one and the cheney one were pretty funny. I don't know if I can muster an LOL though. I don't want to humor you.

I hear you guys about all the updates, but in the grand scheme of things, I'd rather see lots of updates to keep the hackers out than like let's say microsoft that is too little too late.

dreamifucan,

You know, sometimes it's the little things that keep that smile on your face, despite the pain.

Glad your days are getting better - hang in there :-)

Seeeeeeeeeeeee  I'm not getting all hyped up about you trying to put down the GOP and their teleprompters - God I love it when I'm soooooo sincere  *SIGH*

OK peoples I'm in manic mode tonight.............hee hee hee!

I know this is exposing myself as the near computer illiterate that I am but I too thought Safari was only for my iPhone.  Guess I never put any thought into it (evidently) but now I'm anxious to play with it.  Thanks!  See I learn something on these blogs each time I sit at the computer.
