So recently, my nights have been filled with musical work. Only instead of actually just working on making music, for over a week now it's been processing music files, writing html (ah the code we forget when we do not use it on a daily basis) to update our web presence, and finishing up our logo - which opened up a whole slew of branding ideas and products. I started taking photos of our studio equipment in intereesting angles, then cutting them up and editing them to make some really cool letterhead. This weekend, I'm planning on working on a business card and putting the iron-ons onto some tee shirts so I can sport the new logo. The font I used is one we actually made ourselves, and I'm thinking of creating a font set out of it when I get time to figure it all out.

But the big thing I finally completed last night was I downloaded an ftp program and uploaded 4 of our previously unreleased tracks to Release Records to add to our digital download catalog. We have two of our songs on there already ("Return of the Funk" & "Muse"), so this brings the total to 6. The artists on our label who are featured on there are Odeed & Wish. The tunes we uploaded are "Mind Matter E.F.F.E.C.T.", "Bigloo", "Authentic" and our newest tune, "Maintain the Funk". They should be up some time next week. Yay!

So i bought an artichoke at the grocery store because i hear they are a healthy vegetable to eat. Problem is, I have no recipes for it or any idea what to do now. I looked online for some recipes but I'm finding a lot of them call for canned artichokes in the artichoke and cheese dip recipes. Yuck! Canned vegetables are no where near as good as fresh, I know at least that much. Does anyone have a good artichoke dip recipe for fresh artichokes? I don't have spinach (and since the E Coli scare I haven't bought any). Any ideas?

I think it's just great how you plant something that looks dead and then months later (just when you start thinking, "maybe I planted it wrong, or I did not choose a good plant") it's the most beautiful thing growing in your backyard. After much hard work and research, I planted a weeping cherry tree in the backyard of our new house. It looked like a stick with smaller sticks hanging from the tallest part of the stem like a hippie's hair, dangling in the wind. I had hoped it would be ok, I planted it deep (no easy feat there, the ground was rock solid and had to be soaked numerous times), with rocks for drainage at the bottom, tree fertilizer, miracle gro potting soil mixed in with dirt, mulched it, made a circle around it to hold water, and even put transplanting solution on it. I gave it blooming solution every other week as directed, and the waiting game continued. Finally, last weekend it began to show some signs of life. Tiny green leaves began to sprout from the tops of the branches to about 3/4 down. At the end of the branches, little pink flowers began to emerge, and the two colors played very beautifully together against the deep mahogany color of the stem. Yay! I guess I do have a green thumb after all!

white flowers drift down from the trees like snow

an obligitory two weeks of distance

one week down, one to go

time changes and the hours seem longer

everything set on a high contrast

sky blue to spring green

infused with the sun

reflecting back only the colors not absorbed

cats padding along on rooftops

inviting me to taste freedom

i want out of this place

overburdened and underappreciated

finding solace only upon departure

this week will not be short enough

Calico.3.1.07.carrie

Young and free

How could this happen

You lay there twisted and broken

Eyes wide open to the sun

Copper and beautiful

On hard pavement

To be passed under harder stares

I’ve watched you from my window

Following your mother

Leaping at your shadow

Chewing at the grass

You gave me inspiration

You gave me hope

How could someone give you death

And leave you on the sidewalk

Your calico coat twisted around you

Your tiny paws reaching out

In one last stretch?
