Rosedale commute tips

I will be moving out to the northwest in a few weeks and I figured I would tap our online readers for tips on the daily commute.

I remember living in the southwest and finding all kinds of little secrets to get to work fast (H street north of Brundage is pretty empty most days, stay in the center lane when on California near the 99 bridge to avoid getting backed up, etc.)

So what do I need to know about commuting from Rosedale?

I will actually be in the Brimhall/Jewetta area, so I’m wondering if Brimhall is a decent alternate east/west route? Or is it packed?

I was eyeing a route that takes Brimhall to Coffee to Truxtun Extension. But the left turn off Coffee and onto Truxtun Ext looks like it could be a nightmare.

So folks, what do you suggest?

Anything is better than Rosedale. If you live close to Jewetta look at south on Jewetta to Stockdale and east on Stockdale. It all depends on where you are commuting to.

The left turn at Coffee and Truxtun is nothing compared to Rosedale. It might take you a couple lights to get through, but Truxtun runs faster than Rosedale. On the flip side, Truxtun's good ride ends at Oak and getting farther east from that point can be problematic, so if you need to go further east, Neverleft's suggestion is good. You could take Stockdale down to 58 and take that to get to the east side of town.

I commute to downtown. Think H and 18th.

Stockdale might be a bit out of the way. Especially since it gets bogged down around California. But it's probably worth a try.

Thanks

Take Stockdale to I-5, then proceed direct to LAX.

Get a flight from LAX to Bakersfield.  They have an early morning flight.  Fly to Bakersfield, then take Airport Drive to your work.  Reverse the process for the commute home. This may be expensive, but a much quicker commute than going down Rosedale Highway.

If you're going downtown, the Truxtun is definately the way to go. You'll have a little slow-down at Truxtun and Oak, but nothing compared to California and Oak or Rosedale.

LOL ron. That was hilarious.

Don't take Truxtun. I go that way, and I don't want more traffic.  ; )

Actually the main reason it's better than Rosedale is the scenery. You either have trees, a lake and foliage, or dirt and a refinery. It's your choice.

I live in Riverlakes and my commute is from the east side in general. It all depends on the time of day as to what works the best. At 5:15, NOTHING works any better than the other. Truxtun Ext gets backed up for about a mile at Gosford, Coffee is backed up over the bridge at the tracks from Rosedale, Calloway is a disaster area at Rosedale. If you live west of Coffee, Rosedale really isn't that bad anymore with Olive going all teh way through. Still, from downtown, the eastside or the southwest, if you take 99 to Olive then west on Olive or left on Knudsen to Hageman, it's pretty good too. It''s the long way around, but sometimes quicker.

From that area, go Truxtun, but change your hours, leave before 7:00, the drive home is worse, but if you leave 30min before or after 5:00 you will save a couple of minutes, get some good books on tape or music and just accept that you might have a longer drive.  Until the westside parkway is built, there is no secret good route, they all area congested.  Although, Rosedale really is not that bad, but dont tell anyone, everybody else thinks its bad so they avoid it, that is ok with me.  Good luck.

Davin, you are going to have a commute very similar to what I've had since we moved to Brimhall/Old Farm six years ago. Recently the city/county put in a new stoplight at Brimhall/Verdugo, just to foul up your commute a bit more. Welcome to the neighborhood!

The traffic from 7:30 a.m. to 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. is ridiculous no matter which way you go. I changed my work hours to avoid it! So, I hope you have something other than an 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. schedule. I've always gone Brimhall/Coffee/Truxtun because it's the most direct route. I've used quite the array of curse words while driving it, though.

Best of luck to you!
